Ayesa is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Design Lead with a strong background in structural or geotechnical design, with over 8 years of relevant industry experience. As a Principal Design Lead, you will play a pivotal role in delivering discrete structural design packages and providing guidance, coordination, and mentorship to a team of engineers.
The Marine & Coastal team in Ireland work on various public and private projects for contractors, county councils, developers, port owners and operators. We have consulted and designed ports with diverse needs, including Dubai Port, Aqaba New Port, Dublin Port masterplan, Greenore and Lowestoft Port FEED in the UK, delivering next-generation port infrastructure.
These complex engineering projects require expertise in regulation and permitting, maritime and port operations, structural and geotechnical engineering, site investigations, marine ecology, dredging and reclamation, project management, contract administration and site supervision. We offer our clients a range of our in-house expertise in various specialist areas, including modelling, flooding, ecology, marine biology, geotechnics, geomorphology, hydraulics, navigation, dredging & reclamation, and aquaculture. As a multi-disciplinary consultancy, we combine marine engineering with broader transport and infrastructure specialisms to deliver a holistic design and delivery service.
Key Responsibilities:
· Leading Structural or Geotechnical Design: Oversee the design aspects of projects from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to project specifications, codes, and standards.
· Project Management: Manage multiple projects concurrently, supervising the development and delivery of design packages within set timelines and budgets.
· Technical Expertise: Apply advanced knowledge in structural or geotechnical engineering principles to develop innovative and cost-effective design solutions.
· Quality Assurance: Ensure the accuracy and quality of design deliverables through comprehensive review processes, maintaining compliance with industry standards and regulations.
· Team Coordination and Mentoring: Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate structural designs seamlessly into project objectives. Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers, fostering their professional growth.
· Client Interaction: Collaborate closely with clients to understand project requirements, address concerns, and offer expert advice on structural or geotechnical design matters.
· Risk Management: Identify potential risks associated with structural design activities and implement proactive measures to mitigate them effectively.
· Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on the latest advancements in structural engineering technologies and methodologies. Implement process enhancements to improve efficiency and productivity within the design team.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
· Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in structural or geotechnical design, demonstrating success in delivering complex projects.
Skills & Knowledge
· Extensive experience in designing and inspecting marine structures, with over 8 years in engineering consulting or civil/marine contracting industries.
· Proficiency in report writing and presentation skills.
· Broad expertise in marine structural design, coastal processes design, numerical modeling studies, and understanding of environmental engineering and permitting requirements.
· Mastery in technical and financial project delivery.
· Proficient in relevant codes such as BS 6349, Eurocodes, and marine guidance.
· Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
· Ability to mentor and coach junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning and development.
· Thorough understanding of codes, standards, and regulations governing structural and geotechnical engineering practices.
· Exceptional problem-solving skills and adeptness in managing project priorities and deadlines.
