Role Title: Clinical Research Registrar (Gastroenterology) on the EU4Health funded "TOGAS" Study Department: Beacon Hospital Research Institute (BHRI), Beacon Hospital, Dublin Reports to: Director of Education, Research & Medical Office, Dr Ruth Pilkington Date of Commencement: July 2025 or sooner if available Duration: 12 Months Overall Purpose of the Role: The purpose of this role is to provide research and clinical support to the EU4Health funded "Togas - Towards Gastric Cancer Screening Implementation in the European Union" study.
The TOGAS study is a 36-month study with a budget of €13.3million involving 21 collaborators across 12-member states.
Beacon Hospital Research Institute (BHRI) is a collaborative partner.
TOGAS will involve three pilot studies, each designed to address specific aspects of gastric cancer screening and early detection.
The project will be supervised by Professor O'Morain and Dr Kelly and reporting to Dr Pilkington, Director of Education Research & Medical Office.
This position is suited for an MD candidate.
Key Responsibilities Research This project is now in progress however further recruitment is required.
This will involve targeting populations at increased risk of Gastric cancer.
Lead project recruitment including designing innovative approaches to reaching target populations, development of screening and consent pathways, data collection and data management.
Actively assist in the operational and clinical management of the TOGAS study in accordance with best practice guidelines, good clinical practice and patient safety.
Work within standard operating procedures (SOPs) and research protocols associated with all TOGAS research activities.
Ensure patient confidentiality and dignity is assured and maintained at all times throughout the TOGAS study in line with Data Protection Act 2018 and Health Research Regulations 2018.
Maintain and upkeep all clinical research documentation, including: site files, case record forms, monitoring arrangements, data correction and data collection Assist in preparation of the ethical and regulatory procedures (submissions, query resolution etc.)
for the TOGAS study Review proposed research protocols and provide input to site study feasibility reports (e.g.
annual site patient numbers, equipment / test availability etc.).
Ensure that patients are fully informed of all details pertaining to the clinical trial/research project prior to their recruitment Screen patients in order to identify suitable study candidates Medication prescribing, monitoring and compliance of patients to medication regime.
Report any research SAEs to the study team and wider consortia Ensure smooth operation of the clinic on screening/recruitment days for the study Carry out other duties as appropriate to the post as may be assigned occasionally by the study team Clinical duties In addition to medication prescribing, monitoring and adherence of patients to medication regime in line with TOGAS study protocol, candidate will have the opportunity to gain clinical experience in gastroenterology, specifically outpatient clinic and endoscopy through supervised practice with Connolly Hospital under supervision of Dr Orlaith Kelly.
Educational opportunities Candidate will have the opportunity to attend and present at NCHD teaching sessions, Grand Rounds and BHRI research meetings.
The candidate will also have the opportunity to provide both classroom and bedside teaching in the relevant area to undergraduate medicine students on clinical placement in Beacon Hospital. Qualifications The minimum training requirements required to apply for this position include: MB BCh - Recognised Medical Degree International Candidates must have achieved a minimal score of 7 on the International English Language Testing System All candidates must have current IMC registration Experience Previous research experience including patient recruitment, consent, data collection and analysis and dissemination is desirable.
