We need individuals who are enthusiastic about applying bold new ideas to solving real-world customer problems and who are passionate about working with customers. Candidates must be able to translate customers' needs and use cases into technical innovation and robust engineering solutions on AWS.
The Database Engineering team is actively engaged in the ongoing database engineering process, partnering with development groups and providing deep subject matter expertise to feature design, and as an advocate for bringing forward and resolving customer issues. In this role you act as the “Voice of the Customer” helping software engineers understand how customers use databases.

Key job responsibilities
1. Collaborate with the software delivery team on detailed design reviews for new feature development.
2. Work with customers to identify root cause for ambiguous, complex database issues where the engine is not working as desired.
3. Working across teams to improve operational toolsets and internal mechanisms.

We are database experts actively engaged in the entire engineering process, partnering with development groups and providing subject matter expertise to the team in order to aid with feature design and as a customer advocate, bringing forward and resolving customer issues.
About the team
Utility Computing (UC) AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (IoT), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
1. Experience designing and running MySQL relational databases.
2. Experience engineering, administering and managing multiple relational database engines (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, SQLServer, PostgreSQL).
3. Working knowledge of relational database internals (locking, consistency, serialization, recovery paths).
4. Systems engineering experience, including Linux performance, memory management, I/O tuning, configuration, security, networking, clusters and troubleshooting.
5. Coding skills in the procedural language for at least one database engine (PL/SQL, T-SQL, etc.) and at least one scripting language (shell, Python, Perl).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Consulting experience working with multiple customers.
