Salary: Commensurate with experience Proposed Start date: May 2025 About FutureNeuro and RCSI FutureNeuro is the Research Ireland Centre for Translational Brain Science. Our Centre uniquely focuses on making discoveries and developing technologies that can solve the urgent, unmet needs of people living with neurological, psychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders and the health professionals who care for them, linked to Ireland's clinical care pathways. Hosted by RCSI, our 34 research teams are based in eight leading Irish universities and are linked into the main treatment hospitals for neurology and psychiatry. We aim to change the patient journey through our research. This includes developing rapid and accurate tools for diagnosis, the development of therapies to correct damaged brain networks, technologies to enable self-monitoring of health and well-being, and linking this to Ireland's national imaging, diagnostics and eHealth infrastructure based in our specialist care hospitals. We are multi-disciplinary, inter- institutional and work with industry, patient organisations and the health service to transform the lives of patients in Ireland and worldwide. Following an initial period (2017-2023) to establish a successful pre-clinical and clinical research programme with academic, clinical and industry partners, both nationally and internationally, FutureNeuro has entered Phase 2 of the programme, which brings expanded research capabilities along with key enabling technologies attractive to industry partners. We plan to continually grow our collaborative industry research exponentially. The successful candidate will champion that industry engagement and growth and will join the core FutureNeuro Operations team, which is based at RCSI and supports the academic and clinical researchers to; deliver patient-informed innovative, multi-disciplinary translational research; to secure industry and competitive funding; and to champion the Centre's national and international engagement across world-leading research teams, industry partners, patient groups and the wider public audience. About the post Since 2017, FutureNeuro has secured over €6 Mio in industry cash and in-kind funding from a portfolio of industry partners ranging from SMEs to world-lead pharma and digital health companies. We are now seeking a highly-motivated Industry Business Development Manager with strong business development, management and leadership experience to support us to achieve ambitious targets through the development of new high-value industry academia partnerships and supporting the expansion of existing industry partnerships. Primary duties include Although the post-holder may be asked to take on other responsibilities as required during the growth and evolvement of the FutureNeuro Centre, the specific duties of the post are: Work collaboratively with researchers and affiliated clinicians to understand and identify unique opportunities for industry engagement emerging from the research programme across the eight Irish universities. Lead the preparation of industry-facing material in print, web or on-line format to showcase the FutureNeuro opportunity and associated expertise, intellectual property, equipment, infrastructure, funding opportunities available to FutureNeuro Industry Partners. Represent and promote the FutureNeuro Centre at national and international industry matchmaking events. Organise industry engagement events at FutureNeuro. Work closely with National public bodies such as Enterprise Ireland, IDA and Science Foundation Ireland to promote the FutureNeuro brand and support the Centre's industry engagement and research commercialisation opportunities. Identify and establish relationships with new prospective industry partners. Manage and grow the existing pipe-line of industry engagement to ensure that year-on- year targets are met and exceeded. Adopt a risk management strategy across industry pipeline with a priority on diversification across the Centre's three research strands. Take responsibility for establishing and managing multi-point relationships with industry partners with a specific focus on identifying and developing long-term strategic relationships. Work with FutureNeuro Centre researchers and prospective industry partners to determine project scope, resource requirements and appropriate funding mechanism. Support the negotiation and conclusion of co-funded and fully-funded projects with in collaboration with relevant Departments/Offices in RCSI and its partner Research Performing Organisations (RPOs) e.g. Office of Research & Innovation, Finance and HR. Ensure seamless transfers of project once funding agreement concluded to Centre Project Management Team. Identify and work with prospective SME industry partners to capitalise on collaborative funding applications including Horizon Europe and national programmes (e.g. Enterprise Ireland, Disruptive Technology Innovation Fund). Work closely with the relevant Departments/Offices RCSI and its Partner RPOs to ensure timely evaluation, protection and commercialisation of Intellectual Property arising from Centre's research programme. Develop Industry partnerships that will enable the FutureNeuro Centre be successful in securing SFI Spoke, EI Innovation Partnership and Horizon Europe funding. Monitor relevant research initiatives, trends and industry shifts in order to maintain Centre relevance to industry. Monitor the national horizon for prospective strategic public private engagement opportunities of relevance to FutureNeuro. Support the career progression of researchers from academia to industry by identifying industry secondment and visiting scientist opportunities. Ensure timely reporting of Business Development activities to the Director, the Board, Host Institution and other stakeholders. Take responsibility for the industry cost-share reporting process to prime sponsor and ensure compliance with State Aids rules. Liaise closely with the Finance teams in RCSI and its partner RPOs to develop and monitor industry cash and in-kind expenditure and produce reports and projections in relation to same. Contribute to the preparation of annual Centre reports in line with funding and governance requirements. Other such duties as may be assigned by the Centre Director and Centre Manager. Key Performance metrics Value of industry funding secured. No. of industry partners collaborating with the Centre. No. of Irish SMEs collaborating with the Centre. Balanced portfolio of industry collaboration across Centre's three strands. Required Knowledge & Experience Essential Minimum of 3 years relevant business development experience in industry or academia in a life science or health related area. Experience in establishing and managing meaningful and productive partner relationships across boundaries between scientific disciplines and organisations. Excellent communication and presentation skills across all communication channels (oral, written, presentation etc.) Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. Ability to identify and capitalise on new business opportunities. Ability to remain resilient and motivated while identifying and closing new business opportunities. Desirable Experience in the development industry: academic collaborations and the commercialisation of academic research. Experience or training in review and negotiation of legal contracts in collaborative, contract, and consultancy with Industry. Knowledge and experience of working with national public bodies (Knowledge Transfer Ireland, Enterprise Ireland, Science Foundation Ireland, IDA Ireland etc.). The ideal candidate should have industrial experience in the area of life sciences and biotech research and development. Knowledge of CRM systems.
