The opportunity
Our practice area has trebled in size over the last three years, and we have ambitious plans to continue that growth. With assistance from a very supportive and integrated team you can expect to enhance and develop your tax technical skills, your management techniques, your client relationship skills and commercial experience. You’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of projects, to manage account and client relationships and to mentor our trainees and more junior management colleagues, as well as learning new skills and taking on new responsibilities as they arise.
Our purpose is building a better working world – our clients are building, developing and investing in the infrastructure we see around us every day and you’ll have the opportunity to play a key role as a trusted advisor in supporting these projects. You will also support our government and semi-state organisations, where EY has an extensive client base, with real estate tax related matters, including advising on tax compliance frameworks and policies.
Your key responsibilities
You'll spend your time on a diverse array of projects, responsibilities and tasks. One of the main focal points of you work will be advising on transactions against the backdrop of the increasingly complex international tax environment. This will include, in particular, due diligence in relation to asset and corporate acquisitions, and advising on the structuring of investments and development projects. A significant element of our work comprises supporting our colleagues in our international network and advising their clients on inbound investment and development opportunities in Ireland. In this context, we have a very strong international real estate network, and we work in a very integrated way with our colleagues across the network. Our team is essentially a sub-set of a much larger international real estate tax team that operates in a seamless and cohesive manner across jurisdictions. This creates very significant opportunities in an Irish context given the level of international investment in real estate in Ireland.
Whatever you're working on, our clients will turn to you for up-to-the-minute tax advice they can rely on. To make that happen, we'll look to you to implement your knowledge of tax concepts and law and to project manage the delivery of top-quality advice to our clients such that they optimise their tax position, but always in the context of the overriding commercial objectives in undertaking the transaction. You’ll be working in a highly collaborative culture, where listening to and sharing information with colleagues is an essential part of the role.
Skills and attributes for success
· Building and managing client relationships, enhancing your knowledge of the real estate industry and bringing your perspectives and experience to the table in advising our clients on how tax impacts their commercial strategy in a transactional context.
· Optimising “pull through opportunities”, including opportunities to deliver tax compliance services. Overseeing the delivery of effective and efficient tax compliance services for our clients in conjunction with the rest of our management team and trainees.
· Contributing to the overall success of the team by developing a thorough understanding of EY methodologies and tools to enhance service delivery.
· Challenging traditional procedures and finding new approaches to provide excellence and efficiency in the delivery of tax services
· Developing and guiding junior tax professionals by providing effective performance feedback and on-the-job training, optimising development opportunities and ensuring team responsibilities are consistent with skills and developmental goals
· Staying abreast of all tax technical developments affecting the real estate sector in Ireland. Communicating these developments in a structured and timely manner to key clients; understanding and articulating how they might impact on clients in a commercial way.
To qualify for the role you should :
· be ACA and/or ITI qualified (of similar international qualification).
· have strong tax technical skills, including tax research and writing skills, and have an ability to communicate complex issues in a coherent and commercial way to clients.
· be a good project manager, and have an ability to manage deadlines and client expectations in a fast-paced environment
· possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, and confidence to build and maintain strong relationships with clients.
· Ideally, you’ll have some specialism in Irish real estate tax related matters, but that is not a pre-requisite, particularly if you can demonstrate strong transactional, due diligence and/or international tax structuring experience.
What we look for:
We're interested in ambitious tax professionals with confidence and knowledge to think creatively in a constantly shifting environment; to take ownership of projects, manage client relationships, seek and crystallise new opportunities in the marketplace and interact more generally as an EY ambassador both with clients and the wider marketplace. If you have an entrepreneurial spirit, the ability to prioritize across projects and make strong decisions in often-uncertain scenarios, and if you place a high importance on working in a collaborative, diverse and supportive culture, with significant opportunity for career advancement, this role is for you.
