Job Description
Role Purpose:
To provide a high quality, person-centred Occupational Therapy service to adults with intellectual disabilities. This service involves assessment, intervention, programme planning and implementation, discharge and onwards referrals. Services provision may include directive, monitoring and consultative approaches. The primary brief of the post will be working with adults in Stewarts Care services but flexibility may be required to meet the needs of the service.
Key Responsibilities:
* Be responsible for assessment, planning, implementation, and review of intervention programmes for service users attending Stewarts Care. This is needs based and focussed on achieving outcomes that are defined and prioritised by the service user, their family and carers.
* Liaise and work actively with other members of the multidisciplinary team, including education, nursing and care staff regarding the co-ordination and delivery of Occupational Therapy intervention.
* Attend and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to ensure integrated care for the service user.
* Consult with parents/guardians/service users regarding assessment, treatment and education as appropriate.
* Participate in the development of clinical protocols and guidelines reflective of evidence-based practice.
* Manage clinical and non-clinical caseloads appropriate to the post.
* Become familiar with and work in accordance with relevant HSE policies, Progressing Disability Services Policies, HIQA standards, De-congregation, New Directions, legislation and professional policies, guidelines and requirements to ensure safe practice and high standards of service delivery.
* Promote a culture that values equality, diversity and respect in the workplace.
* Communicate verbally and/or in writing, results of assessments, intervention programmes and recommendations to the team and relevant others in accordance with service policy.
* Attend clinical meetings, case conferences and reviews as designed by the Occupational Therapy Manager or Senior Occupational Therapist.
* Document all assessments, intervention plans, progress notes and reports in accordance with professional standards.
* Arrange and carry out duties in a timely manner within settings appropriate to service users and in line with service policy/guidelines.
* Seek advice and assistance from supervisor/manager with any cases or issues that prove to be beyond the scope of his/her professional competence in line with principles of best practice and clinical governance.
* Maintain professional standards in relation to confidentiality, ethics and legislation.
* Ensure positive representation of the Occupational Therapy service at all times.
* Maintain quality standards of practice and participate in quality assurance and clinical audit as appropriate.
Role Requirements:
Essential:
* Hold a qualification in Occupational Therapy recognised by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU. Annual CORU registration must be maintained.
* Evidence of participation in Continuous Professional Development.
* Effective communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
* Effective planning, organisational and time management skills.
* Relevant ICT skills.
Desirable:
* Experience of inter-disciplinary team working.
* Knowledge of all the relevant children and disability-related legislation and standards of practice.
* Have a full driving licence and access to a car.
* Experience of working with children and adolescents with a range of disabilities.
