Role Profile
As Head of Risk, the successful candidate will be responsible for enhancing and embedding the risk framework across the key risk areas and all related risk governance activities. You will ensure adherence to the enterprise risk management framework for risk policies, standards, and practices and serve as a point of escalation for governance and risk issues working closely with business leaders to improve the quality and value of core data assets. You will respond to regulatory requirements supporting strategic requirements. In collaboration with management, this role will lead in the identification, assessment, monitoring, and reporting on enterprise-wide risks.
This position will suit somebody with significant quantitative risk management and leadership experience gained in the fund or asset management, banking, or insurance sectors who is comfortable leading and implementing a Data Quality & Governance ‘change’ agenda across a multitude of business units through a matrix reporting structure. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to play a leading role in the implementation of a best-in-class solution for a key enabler of our business strategy going forward.
The Risk Function is currently split into four teams as follows: Investment Risk Management, Operational Risk, Enterprise Risk Management, and Insurance Risk Management. The role holder will report to the Director of Risk & Compliance, and the appointment will be subject to the requirements of the Central Bank of Ireland’s Pre-Approved Control Function (PCF) and Individual Accountability Framework (IAF) regimes.
Duties
1. Management of the risk function;
2. Oversee the execution of all risk governance activities with a view to improving the sophistication of our risk control framework;
3. Key point of escalation on risk matters, liaising between the business, technology, and other relevant functions to ensure that risk-related business requirements are clearly defined, communicated, and understood ensuring operational effectiveness;
4. Support effective sound and effective risk governance across the business;
5. Data Quality Process management in line with the Data Governance Framework ensuring quality improvements, modification as necessary to behaviour, processes, related tools, and data architecture;
6. Foster a positive risk culture across business units;
7. Drive strong collaboration between business areas and the risk function;
8. To keep up to date with emerging best practices in this area and update our internal framework as appropriate;
9. Ad hoc projects/tasks as required.
Skills & Competencies
1. Significant financial risk management experience, including market, liquidity, and credit risk;
2. Familiarity with non-financial risks, including operational risk and enterprise risk management;
3. Analytical mindset and strong attention to detail;
4. Action and Results Oriented;
5. Ability to coherently present complex data outputs and concepts to senior leaders and Board members;
6. In-depth knowledge of industry data quality and data governance best practices;
7. Proven practical knowledge of and experience in Data & Analytics technologies, best practice models, and project delivery methodologies;
8. Deep and eager interest in emerging technologies, and the ability to leverage those technologies to deliver innovative and value-add solutions to our end clients;
9. Ability to develop and manage relationships both internally and externally;
10. An appropriate proficiency in IT & Project Management skills.
Qualifications & Experience
1. Relevant 3rd Level Degree, preferably in business, finance, or statistics;
2. A formal qualification in risk management and/or data science would be advantageous;
3. At least 10+ years’ experience in a risk environment within financial services including a minimum of 5 years of people management/leadership experience;
4. Experience of Project Management and overseeing the delivery of change would be advantageous, though not essential.
