Current Opening
Reporting to the Education Department Chair, this new faculty position offers the successful candidate the unique opportunity to assist in the development of our new special education curriculum and certification at Mount Aloysius.
The Assistant Professor will teach courses in early childhood education, in the PK-4, 4-8, and 7-12 certification programs, as well as in the new PK-12 Special Education certification program and general education courses. This position will also be responsible to develop and coordinate the special education certification program options, write new curriculum, and assist with departmental work related to curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation. During the spring 2025 semester, the faculty member will be given release time to develop the new curriculum for submission to the Pennsylvania Department of Education under the supervision of the department chair. The faculty member will also have the opportunity to advise the student chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children club and participate in professional development.
This position offers a regular, full-time 9-month appointment from August – May with a workload of 24 credit hours or equivalent per academic year. Faculty are expected to have a regular presence on campus to engage with students both inside and outside of the classroom. This faculty member will participate in department meetings, committee work, advise students academically, hold regular office hours, supervise student teachers in special education classrooms, and assist with and participate in departmental initiatives, College events, service to the College, and other activities.
Applicants must have the ability to utilize various teaching methods and effectively incorporate the use of technology into the teaching/learning process; should be comfortable teaching in a variety of formats (in person, hybrid, and online).

Qualifications
Ph.D., D.Ed., Ed.D. or Master’s Degree in Education or Special Education required. ABD candidates will be considered if completion of Doctorate Degree is within one year of date of hire. ABD candidates will be hired at the rank of Instructor. Minimum of two (2) years of relevant teaching experience at the collegiate level is required, as well as experience teaching in PK-12 special education classrooms/schools in Pennsylvania. The successful candidate must hold Pennsylvania special education teaching certification and additional certification in early childhood education, elementary education, middle school and/or secondary education. Experience in special education program development in the higher education setting in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Department of Education preferred. Experience using Canvas LMS is a plus.
