Job Title: Senior Physiotherapist Musculoskeletal Outpatients (Permanent, Full Time)
Department: Physiotherapy
Reports to: Allied Therapy Manager

Overall Purpose of Job
We will provide exceptional patient care in an environment where quality, respect, caring and compassion are at the centre of all we do. Job encompasses provision of Outpatient MSK/Orthopaedic/Spinal Triage and Pain Management Physiotherapy services to our patient population.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
1. PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develop and administer the highest quality of service by identifying and implementing operational procedures in line with best practice standards.
2. Keep abreast with new developments, skills and technology to ensure continuing competence in the job.
3. Enhance his/her skills in order to initiate and respond to changes in the work environment as additional roles may be demanded e.g. data analysis, clinical audit, continued professional development and research.
2. MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. To participate in the management of the Physiotherapy Service as a member of the Senior Physiotherapy Management team in co-operation with the Allied Therapy Manager.
2. To create and promote good working relationships through open communication.
3. To contribute to and participate in the staff induction, staff appraisal and in-service training programmes.
4. To actively participate in and promote continuing education and research activities consistent with the position.
5. To maintain appropriate records and statistics sufficient for organisational and legal purposes to include work related injuries/incidents.
6. To regularly review and update the musculo-skeletal out-patient Policy documents.
7. To be responsible for overseeing equipment safety tests, both electrical and non-electrical, in accordance with the Physiotherapy Department's Safety Policy.
8. To ensure that all new electrical equipment has been approved by the Facilities Department prior to use in the Physiotherapy Department.
9. To participate in the Physiotherapy on-call with standby rota and provide occasional cross-cover to Inpatient Physiotherapy areas based on service need.
3. STAFF MANAGEMENT:
1. To lead by example a professional, dedicated and punctual team.
2. To encourage professional development of team members through promotion of self-learning, formal courses and in-service training.
3. To facilitate staff compliance with Orientation training.
4. HEALTH AND SAFETY:
1. To ensure that effective safety procedures are in place to comply not only with the Health, Safety and Welfare at Work Act, but also within the spirit of the Hospital's mission, values.
2. To be conversant with and uphold the Beacon Hospital's Safety Statement, Fire Safety regulations and the Major and Emergency Disaster Plan, with continuous maintenance of Hospital Mandatory Training.
3. To ensure that faulty equipment is immediately removed from the treatment area and restored to safe use as promptly as possible.
5. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY:
1. In association with the Information Technology Department, to comply with the Computer-integrated system Meditech, QPulse, BTime for the Physiotherapy Department.
2. To collect, interpret and present data and information through audit of service activity and clinical standards.
6. FINANCIAL:
1. In co-operation with the Manager participate in the control of consumable expenditure and management of departmental budgets, including a planned programme for replacing capital equipment.
NOTE: This is a permanent full time 35 hour per week role. This will include cover of one evening clinic per week, participation in the Physiotherapy Department on-call rota and occasional cross cover to Physiotherapy inpatient services as required by service demands.
Person Specification
Qualifications
1. Be registered with CORU.
2. Experience of first contact Spinal Triage Services is desirable.
3. A Master's degree in Physiotherapy or an equivalent qualification is desirable.
4. Pilates and Vestibular Rehabilitation experience an advantage.
5. Strength and Conditioning Accreditation is desirable but not essential.
6. Experience in treating chronic pain disorders is an advantage.
Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy experience.

* Dry needling/acupuncture
* Biomechanical assessment for orthotics
* Chronic pain management
* Vestibular Rehabilitation
* Ward based skills
1. Demonstrate knowledge of wound healing, fracture and tendon healing.
2. Demonstrate knowledge of motor control and movement patterns.
3. Demonstrate knowledge of Red Flags and Yellow Flags.
4. Demonstrate ability to sort through extraneous detail to identify pertinent information. Focuses on, and documents key detail accurately in PT notes.
Assessments: Adheres to departmental assessment protocols. Utilises references to expand knowledge of assessment tools.
Clinical Reasoning: Demonstrates choice of appropriate treatment intervention through sound clinical reasoning.
Treatment Reflection: Demonstrate ongoing re-assessment throughout course of treatment.
Analysis of treatment outcome and subsequent re-evaluation on treatment results.
Realistic and appropriate goal setting.
Appropriate and timely modification of Treatment programme.
Appropriate onward referral for the patient when appropriate.
Trained in Basic Life Support / available to attend in house training in same.
Demonstrate an ability to manage and develop self and others in a busy working environment.
Demonstrate flexibility and openness to change.
Demonstrate ability to utilise supervision effectively.
