Global Hazardous Materials Management
Position Summary:
We are a mission-driven team dedicated to creating safe and sustainable solutions that advance health outcomes globally. We are seeking a Senior Manager, EH&S for Global Hazardous Materials Management to lead the development and execution of strategies to manage hazardous materials across our global operations. This leadership role will collaborate closely with EHS teams worldwide to ensure regulatory compliance, chemical safety, exposure control, and safe handling, storage, and transport of hazardous materials. You will play a critical role in upholding global safety standards, minimizing environmental impact, and maintaining a safe workplace.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Leadership
o Develop and implement a global strategy for hazardous materials management that aligns with the company’s safety objectives, regulatory requirements, and sustainability goals.
o Design a 3-to-5-year strategy to proactively manage anticipated regulatory changes, potential business expansions, climate-related challenges, and other strategic priorities.
2. Regulatory Compliance
o Ensure compliance with international, national, and local hazardous materials regulations, staying informed on evolving legislation and industry standards.
o Monitor and respond to regulatory changes, maintaining processes that meet operational needs and industry requirements. Represent the organization in industry associations and regulatory bodies on issues related to hazardous materials.
3. Risk Management
o Establish robust processes to identify and mitigate risks to employees, facilities, and communities associated with hazardous materials.
o Implement risk reduction strategies, including emergency response procedures where necessary.
4. Policy Development
o Develop and enforce policies and standards for the safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
o Oversee policies governing the introduction, substitution, and decommissioning of hazardous materials, as well as inventory management protocols.
5. Training & Education
o Oversee development and delivery of training programs on hazardous materials management and safety protocols.
o Ensure all personnel are appropriately trained to meet regulatory and operational standards for hazardous materials handling.
6. Incident Response
o Lead the response to hazardous materials incidents, including consistent global reporting, investigation, and corrective actions.
7. Stakeholder Engagement
o Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, industry groups, and community organizations, as the EH&S hazardous materials subject matter expert.
8. Sustainability Initiatives
o Support company-wide sustainability initiatives, advocating for reductions, substitutions, and safer management of hazardous materials in support of sustainability goals.
9. Performance Monitoring
o Develop metrics and reporting systems to measure the effectiveness of hazardous materials management programs.
o Implement an assurance program that verifies hazardous materials protocols across operational and regional sites.
Qualifications/Requirements:
* Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field (Advanced degree preferred).
* Minimum 10 years of experience in hazardous materials management or a related field, including at least 5 years in a leadership role. International experience is an asset.
* Strong knowledge of international hazardous materials regulations and best practices, with demonstrated chemical safety expertise.
* Exceptional leadership, communication, and project management skills, with proficiency in working within cross-functional global teams. Experience with hazard analysis (e.g., HAZOP) is preferred.
* Certifications in Hazardous Materials Management, Industrial Hygiene, or risk assessment are advantageous.
