Applications are sought for Ad Astra Fellow - Assistant Professor in Foundational Technologies and Models for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) within the College of Science.
The UCD School of Computer Science (SCS) and School Mathematics and Statistics (SMS) is seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor in the area of foundational technologies and models for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML).
The successful candidate will develop foundational machine learning, algorithms and architectures, to support advances in the application of Artificial Intelligence.
This role will target research focused in areas such as: Learning theory; Reinforcement learning; Online Learning; Transfer learning; Interpretability, trustworthiness and accountability in decision making; LLMs and Human language technologies; High-performance and sustainable computing architectures for AI/ML The UCD College of Science, to which the Schools of Computer Science and Mathematics and Statistics belong, is undergoing an exciting transformation under the guiding principle of `data in science, science in data'.
This new post aligns with the College of Science's guiding principle, and with the AI and Digital Technologies ethos of the pillars and initiatives in the UCD 2030 Breaking Boundaries strategy.
The successful candidate will nurture collaboration between the two Schools through a research programme that underpins the wider research activities of a new AI institute.
The candidate will develop and sustain a leading foundational research programme, including publishing in peer-reviewed academic journals and conferences, the supervision of research students and the development and submission of competitive applications for external funding.
The candidate will be expected to develop a research programme which augments and broadens the current areas of research in both Schools.
The successful candidate will also be expected to be committed to pursuing excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across both School's wide-ranging data-centric programmes, and to contribute to the development and delivery of new programmes.

€62,855 - €99,533 Per Annum Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines.
