Orpea Group are currently recruiting for Activity Coordinators who will provide meaningful activities and stimulation to all residents at our nursing home in Millbrae Lodge Nursing Home in Newport, Tipperary. The post involves working as a part of a team, assessing residents’ individual interests and acknowledging individual differences between residents. Activity Coordinators will encourage and promote participation in appropriate activities that allow for an increased sense of wellness and enjoyment in life.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Plan, coordinate and implement meaningful activities on a daily basis.
2. Be aware of individual needs and abilities of all residents.
3. Be aware of individual residents’ medical/nursing requirements (required level of supervision to ensure safety, transferring ability, cognitive deficits, special diet requirements, etc.) as appropriate to know for the implementation of an activity programme. Refer to the nurse in charge if unsure of specific residents’ needs.
4. Plan and organise weekly activity schedules and send to Managers timely.
5. Ensure the volunteers and external performers are kept informed of the centre and organise the schedules of activities.
6. Ensure that all employees have the required information and training related to their job.
7. Participate in performance appraisal process and spot checks, with an effort to improve work performance and efficiency.
8. Carry out regular performance checks on employees and follow up where necessary.
9. Monitor stock levels and inspect all equipment used in activities to ensure safety and that there are enough resources available for the effective running of activities.
10. Provide the appropriate level of supervision to residents during activities to ensure safety.
11. Provide a friendly and caring service to all residents, family members and visitors.
12. Assist in delivering a high standard of service to all residents, promoting their health and safety at all times.
13. Ensure the privacy, dignity and confidentiality of all residents.
14. Observe and report changes in a resident’s condition to the Nurse.
15. Use correct procedures for barrier nursing and abide by a strict hand washing routine. Undertake patient moving and handling using safe and correct procedures.
16. Ensure that good standards of hygiene are maintained for all residents and that their clothes are clean and neat at all times.
17. Help maintain a safe environment for staff, residents and visitors through awareness and safety policies.
18. Provide assistance and orientation to new employees under the direction of the Staff Nurses and Senior Care Assistants.
19. Promote a clean and hygienic environment by ensuring surfaces and equipment are disinfected on a daily basis, after use by residents or any time when soiled.
20. Ensure that all incidents are recorded and appropriate action is taken.
21. Be accountable for the responsible use of supplies and equipment to prevent waste or damage.
22. Notify appropriate person if there is a failure with any equipment or problems with the building.
23. Respond appropriately to all emergency situations.
24. Attend appropriate training, programmes and courses.
25. Respond to all resident and guest complaints swiftly and in a courteous manner.
26. Work co-operatively with other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
27. Communicate effectively with the multi-disciplinary team.
28. Abide by the Centre’s Policies and Procedures.
29. Other duties which may be required from time to time in an effort to keep the Centre running smoothly.
