EXCITING OPPORTUNITY - RESIDENTIAL SERVICE - GALWAY CITY for qualified PIC/ Clinical Nurse Manager to join our dedicated team, making a difference for the people we support to live their best life.
Ability West provides a wide range of high-quality services to children and adults with intellectual disabilities and autism across Galway City and County. Services provided include day, residential, short breaks, community supports, rehabilitative training, and multi-disciplinary supports. The ethos of service provision is underpinned by our Vision, Mission, Core Values, and Strategic Plan, which is to empower people with disabilities to live self-directed lives in an equal and inclusive society. Each person is supported and valued within an environment that promotes their overall autonomy, health, and well-being, enabling them to reach their potential.
This new development features two separate individualized apartments for young adults, catering to those seeking semi-independent and supported living. Each apartment offers a customized experience, promoting autonomy while ensuring support is available as needed. They are designed to enhance self-reliance and community engagement, empowering residents to live according to their personal preferences and abilities.
Central to our new service is a bespoke designed four-bedroom bungalow. Carefully crafted to accommodate the specific requirements of our residents, it provides a safe, supportive environment that emphasizes accessibility and dignity. Each bedroom is designed with attention to both comfort and functionality, fostering an atmosphere of warmth and inclusivity to support individuals with age-related changing needs.
Overview of Role
The Person In Charge / Clinical Nurse Manager has responsibility for the effective and efficient provision and operation of person-centred services to adults and children in the specified designated centre of Ability West, in accordance with the Health Act 2007 (Care and support of residents in designated centres for persons (Children and Adults) with disabilities) Regulation 2013 and all associated regulations.
The Person in Charge / Clinical Nurse Manager will work closely with the Area Service Manager/ Person Participating in Management regarding both planning and implementing the effective delivery of services.
Purpose of Role
The purpose of the Person in Charge / Clinical Nurse Manager role is to ensure that the designated centre is run in accordance with:
* Ability West's Strategic Plan
* Ability West's policies, procedures, guidelines, and Safety Statement
* Provision of a rights-based person-centred home for the people we support with regular communication and reporting to the Area Service Manager and/or Director of Operations
Key Duties
* Provide strong leadership in clinical practice and act as a resource and role model for clinical practice. Provide leadership, supervision, and support to Nursing and Support teams in the provision of clinical and care support services.
* Ensure all relevant records and documentation are kept appropriately and up to date in relation to people supported and staff, particularly ensuring compliance with record keeping in line with legislation and HIQA requirements.
* Ensure that the centre is compliant with all standards as laid down by HIQA and be responsible for maintaining HIQA registration.
* Practice nursing according to Professional Clinical Guidelines, National and Ability West local policies, protocols, guidelines, and current legislation. Participate in teams as appropriate, communicating and working in cooperation with other team members.
* Collaborate with people we support, family, carers, and other staff in treatment/care planning and in the provision of support and advice.
* Ensure that people we support and staff are treated with dignity and respect.
* Contribute to the development and maintenance of nursing standards, protocols, and guidelines consistent with the highest standards of care.
* Be responsible and subject to the overall general direction of the Area Service Manager for the direction and running of the unit.
* Ensure that the people we support are provided with a home-like atmosphere and ensure that their health, recreational, and other needs are adequately catered for.
* Establish and maintain relationships with individuals that are based on respect and equality and that promote their independence.

Minimum Requirements:
* A minimum of 3 years in a management or supervisory role in the area of health or social care.
* Registered in the relevant Division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland [NMBI] (Bord Altranais agus Cnaimhseachais na hEireann) or entitled to be so registered.
* Have the clinical, managerial, and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.
* Candidates must demonstrate evidence of continuous professional development.
* Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability including a high standard of suitability and clinical, managerial, and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.
* On appointment, the nurse must maintain live annual registration on the relevant division of the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (Bord Altranais agus Cnaimhseachais na hEireann).
* Confirm annual registration with NMBI to Ability West.
* A proven track record of managing a residential service which meets quality, regulatory/legislative requirements.
* A proven track record of budget management.
* Experience of report writing, personal support plans, and roster management.
* Full current driving license with access to your own vehicle.
* Excellent working knowledge of legislative/regulatory requirements and responsibilities.
