Engineer, ARN- Infra Delivery TechsThe CI (Cable Infrastructure) team was originally formed in August 2012.
After a re-org in 2018, CI joined the ever growing Infrastructure Delivery group and currently manages the cable installations for AWS Data Centres.
The team contributes and has input into cable plan design, plus is responsible for cable installations for all room builds, infills, reworks, and all network scaling cabling projects in clusters.
We aim to continue innovating to reduce build time, have real-time data available for our customers, maintain quality, reduce cost, increase flexibility, and maintain resiliency and availability of our Data Centers.
Key job responsibilitiesInstallation of cabling infrastructure in a data center environmentComplete understanding of industry cable test procedures and equipment for a variety of different cabling systems (Copper/Fiber test equipment, OTDR, Network analyzer, VFL, etc.)
Report current status via ticketing system, status reports, and emailManage multiple concurrent interdisciplinary projects and ability to work in a teamExhibit quality workmanship and maintain space cleanlinessInventory, track, and manage project related materials throughout project lifecycleFollow all production, safety and quality standards, to include industry code and best practicesProvide daily feedback on project progress to Project Manager / ForemanMust be self-motivated, positive in approach, and professional; help create, develop, and implement project process improvement(s)Must be able to travel within the cluster territory and/or regional territory as neededWork in noisy areas with hotter and colder temperatures than standard office conditionsOccasional work in tight and/or narrow spaces, such as under raised floorsManage, check, and coordinate all materials to be delivered to site dailyPhysical audit of cable basket capacity throughout the data centersScaling forecast heatmap comparison to current capacity to help identify potential lockersWork with CPI to have remediation works completedComplete a QA survey on completionQA audits of New DC builds from room1 to all subsequent roomsIdentify and report on issues and submit a proposed remediation planWork with Construction Manager and cabling vendors to ensure the AWS standards and guidelines are followedWork with PIC and ID teams on scaling projects covering cable pathways, routes and installation best practicesInitiate regular training sessions for AWS staff as well as cabling vendors and contractorsWork on process improvements and new initiatives, submit one pager for review and submit an approval process to implement.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONSComprehension of systems and network platform, infrastructure cable and relevant standards, and the requirements for physical layer inter-connectivity.
Sound computer skills in MS Office suite.
Able to interpret customer requirements into specifications and implement those specifications to the system design and installation.
Must have advanced technical skills and solid working knowledge of cabling plant installation, materials, and quality.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSComprehension of systems and network platform, infrastructure cable and relevant standards, and the requirements for physical layer inter-connectivity.
Familiarity with enterprise data centers and white space.
Sound computer skills in MS Office suite.
Able to manage project engineering to determine the scope of work relative to the design intent of the customer needs.
Able to interpret customer requirements into specifications and implement those specifications to the system design and installation.
Must have advanced technical skills and solid working knowledge of cabling plant installation, materials, and quality.
