Research Associate II - Sam Houston State University
Overview
Master’s degree in security studies/homeland studies, public policy, political science, or a related field of research-related study. Two years of experience working in, or knowledge of, one or more of the following Critical Infrastructure (CI) areas (See CISA). A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Performs specific duties pertaining to newly developed and ongoing research projects, including but not limited to:
1. Data collection & management
2. Content curation
3. Policy evaluation
4. Analysis
Supports research activities in one or more of the Critical Infrastructure (CI) areas.
Works closely with the Institute of Homeland Security (IHS) leadership team to prioritize research endeavors and conduct research activities with the explicit goal of providing IHS and its constituents applied research solutions. Supports new or ongoing applied research projects focusing on critical infrastructure protection areas.
Requires the ability to develop and maintain liaison work with industry and government partners and to establish working relationships for enhancing data exchange and analysis. Plans, administers, or directs the research activities of new or ongoing content initiatives. Researches, vets, classifies, and organizes electronic materials and digital assets that support research used in practitioner and academic curriculum in online courses, presentations, or publications. Identifies weaknesses in the collection, selects new materials, and weeds outdated resources. Coordinates with researchers, public organizations, private industry, and consultants. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Excellent research capabilities are required, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills. Important contacts with research faculty, staff, executive leadership, educational agencies, federal, state agencies, and outside vendors. Facilitates public and private partnerships in one or more of the IHS focus areas. Knowledge and skill in applying principles and practices specific to basic and applied research methods, and related fields of operations.
