Job Description
LOCATION: St John of God Hospital, Stillorgan, Co. Dublin.
POST: Senior Psychologist (Counselling/Clinical) with particular interest in the design, delivery and evaluation of specialist therapies (DBT, CFT, etc)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
I. PSYCHOLOGY SERVICE
1. To provide a range of specialist psychology services for clients and family members including: comprehensive psychological assessment; intervention that includes a range of modalities and therapy models; report writing; psychological programme design and implementation; outcome measurement; and review of effectiveness and service user satisfaction.
2. To ensure the provision of treatment pathways for outpatients of the Hospital.
3. To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a patient’s mental health needs, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of their difficulties, and employing methods of proven efficacy.
4. To work actively and collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues providing an integrated and co-ordinated service to patients and their families, and to contribute to the integrated care plans.
I. PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To be responsible for own work and interventions with highly complex presentations as an autonomous practitioner, and to seek supervision from clinical supervisor and colleagues.
2. To practice within the statutory code of professional practice/PSI Code of Ethics, and maintain appropriate level of Registration/Chartership. To be an active member of the PSI Division of Clinical/Counselling Psychology.
3. To provide clinical placements for trainee psychologists at the request of the Principal Psychologist Manager, ensuring that trainees acquire the necessary skills, competencies and experience to contribute effectively to good mental health care and to evaluate such competencies.
I. MANAGEMENT
1. To participate in the ongoing design and development of a high quality, responsive and accessible service, including advising management on those aspects of service provision that could be improved.
2. To exercise delegated responsibility for managing the psychological resources available to a team, whether in qualified and unqualified graduate psychology staff, or in psychological materials employed in the assessment and treatment of service consumers.
3. To assist and report to the Principal Psychologist Manager in exercising responsibility for the governance of psychological practice within the service.
I. DEVELOPMENTAL
1. Responding to identified needs in the staff team for training and teaching in psychological/specialist skills as agreed within the job plan.
2. To provide post-qualification training (CPD) and clinical professional supervision to qualified psychologists as appropriate and agreed with the Principal Psychologist Manager.
3. To utilise theory, literature and research to support evidence-based practice in psychological work and work with other clinicians.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
* Clinical/Counselling Psychology qualification as accredited by the Psychological Society of Ireland and Dept. of Health.
* Significant post qualification experience of working with complex mental health presentations in an acute setting.
* Experience of managing own workload and responding to demand for psychology within a busy clinical environment.
* Supervision experience with staff grade psychologists, trainees and/or assistant psychologists/volunteers.
* Highly developed, in-depth knowledge & practice of specialist therapies in group and individual contexts (e.g., CFT, DBT, etc.).
* Doctorate level knowledge of research design and data analysis.
