Job Summary
Red Hat's Linux Kernel Engineering team is looking for a software engineer to join us in Red Hat’s RISC-V hardware enablement group. In this role you will be part of a growing team focused on Linux kernel development providing hardware enablement for new RISC-V platforms in the server, desktop, edge, and industrial spaces.
Successful applicants must reside in or close to Waterford or be willing to come to the office on a regular basis.
What You Will Do
1. Backport hardware enabling patches and bugfixes from the upstream kernel into Fedora Linux as we begin our support for RISC-V, then change focus to Red Hat Enterprise Linux backport work when we introduce support in our flagship OS
2. Contribute new development work
3. Participate in the broader upstream Linux community
4. Collaborate in the RISC-V partner ecosystem
5. Collaborate with the Engineering, Quality Engineering, Product Management, Documentation, and product build teams, as well as the open source community
6. Learn new technologies and have fun!
What You Will Bring
7. Experience in Linux kernel development or board bring-up
8. Experience in development board schematic diagrams
9. Familiarity with Device Tree and U-boot
10. Knowledge of Git and upstream Linux kernel patch posting procedures, or experience with upstream development
11. Experience with backporting upstream code to Linux distributions, kernel configuration, building, and testing
12. Ability to work on your own in a small team environment
13. Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks
Nice to Have
14. Familiarity in early boot in flow of RISC-V processors
15. Knowledge of SBI and OpenSBI
16. Knowledge of GRUB or Linuxboot
17. Knowledge of Advanced Configuration & Power Interface (ACPI) and UEFI
18. Knowledge of Hardware design and SoC design
19. Experience working with RISC-V IP providers and chip manufacturers or tier 1 suppliers
