The Brothers of Charity Services Ireland – Southern Region is a major voluntary organisation providing age-related residential, educational, and day services for people with intellectual disabilities, autism, and communication disorders throughout the Cork and Kerry area.

Social Care Manager 1 / Clinical Nurse Manager 1 (CNM1) GRADE
Permanent Full-Time (39 /37.5 hours per week)
Location: Adults Residential Services, Cork City/suburbs / Bandon, Co. Cork
The Purpose
The post holder will ensure that each person supported is assisted through a person-centred approach, ensuring their rights are respected at all times. Emphasis will be on forming a team approach involving the person supported, families, key workers, advocates, and staff, ensuring a meaningful quality of life for each person in their centre(s). Working towards community integration and ensuring quality service provision is an essential part of the role.
The person/s appointed shall ensure that the vision is delivered through our core values of Person-Centred Service. Ensure compliance with organisational policies, procedures, national legislation including Health Act 2007 and H.I.Q.A. regulations. May take on the duties of Person in Charge for a designated centre.
The normal working hours will be 37.5/39 hours per week (depending on qualification); however, flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and sleepovers, are involved.
The person/s appointed shall, in addition to partaking in the roster, be responsible for the day-to-day management of the designated centre/centres, reflecting the ethos and vision of the Brothers of Charity, operating within agreed policies and procedures, and ensuring that the individual needs of persons supported are being met by all workers therein.
Reporting to
Area Manager or other authorised person as the Employing Authority may designate.
Professional Qualifications and Experience
1. Candidates must possess a level 7 or higher in Social Care PLUS a level 8 in a health/management-related 3rd level qualification on the Quality & Qualifications (QQI) framework. OR
2. Possess a nursing qualification PLUS a level 8 in a health/management-related 3rd level qualification on the Quality & Qualifications (QQI) framework.
3. Possess an equivalent qualification recognised by the Social Care Worker Registration Board, CORU.
4. Must be eligible for registration on the Social Care Workers registration board with CORU from November 2023, must obtain such registration by November 2025, and must maintain such registration for the duration of employment in this role.
5. If a qualified nurse, maintain live annual registration in the relevant division of the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland - An Bórd Altranais.
6. Have a minimum of 5 years’ experience working in residential services supporting adults with intellectual disabilities, autism, and challenging behaviour.
7. Minimum 2 years management or supervisory experience.
8. Possess or be working towards a relevant management qualification.
9. Postgraduate training in Positive Behaviour Support is desirable.
10. Be flexible to meet the requirements of the service.
11. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a high level of flexibility are essential.
12. Have experience of using alternative communication methods.
13. Previous experience and understanding of how to support individuals with specific clinical support requirements and a clear understanding of the importance of working in line with written protocols and guidelines is desirable.
14. Have experience of using a person-centred planning system.
15. Be computer literate, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and knowledge and proficiency in using information systems.
Age
The Public Service Superannuation (Age of Retirement) Act, 2018 set 70 years as the compulsory retirement age for public servants.
Health
Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
Character
Candidates for and any person holding the office must be of good character.
Hours of Work
The normal working hours will be 37.5/39 hours per week (depending on qualification); however, flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and nights, are involved. Starting and finishing times will be as notified to the appointee from time to time by the line manager. It is essential that the Clinical Nurse Manager/Social Care leader ensures that there is constant and appropriate cover available within the residential service at all times. The appointee may be required to work additional hours arising from the duties of the appointment, and compensation for these hours will be by way of time off in lieu, to be taken in line with the policy.
Salary Scale
Social Care Manager 1: €54,699 - €63,877 (1/10/24 Consolidated Scales)
Clinical Nurse Mgr 1: €54,981 - €64,750 (1/10/24 Consolidated Scales)
