Mediator, Youth Services (Under 18s)

DublinContract: Full-time, Permanent The purpose of this role is to deliver a mediation service to young people who are accessing emergency, homeless accommodation or who are at risk of doing so due to family conflict or conflict with their primary care-givers.
The role of the mediator is to provide formal mediation with the aim of resolving conflict between young people and their families/primary care-givers in order to facilitate a return to the family home/care placement, to facilitate a more planned move from the family home/care placement, to support the transition from care or sustain an existing care placement.
All referrals to the service are from Tusla social workers
What you will do:
Work within the overall framework and aims and objectives of Focus Ireland.
Provide a mediation service to young people who are accessing emergency, homeless accommodation where family conflict or conflict with their primary care-giver is the main cause of their homelessness.
Provide a mediation service to young people referred by local area social work teams to resolve family conflict or conflict with a primary care-giver which is placing young people at-risk of homelessness.
Provide a mediation service to young people in other situations where family conflict or conflict with a primary care-giver is present and its resolution would reduce the risk of homelessness.
Manage an assigned caseload following best practice and an evidence-based framework.
Communicate regularly with Tusla social workers to update them about ongoing cases and to inform them of any issues arising.
Provide regular, written progress reports to referring social workers.
Provide a monthly report to Focus Ireland's Head of Youth Services.
Engage in formal supervision sessions on a regular basis with the Head of Youth Services.
Maintain accurate, up-to-date and confidential case notes and other records of the work being carried out.
Implement the existing policies and procedures of the project and of Focus Ireland.
Work in close co-operation with other Focus Ireland Services, where appropriate.
Participate in relevant training and development courses and in project evaluation.
In consultation with Focus Ireland's research and development department, to assist with the measurement of the outcomes and impacts of the service against key performance indicators.
Attend and contribute to Team, Section, Divisional and Agency meetings as required.
Undertake such other duties as might be reasonably assigned from time to time in consultation with the Head of Youth Services.
What you will need:
Degree in Social Care, Counselling, Psychotherapy or related fields.
Recognised mediation qualification (Mediators Institute of Ireland/Mediation Northern Ireland).2 years relevant post-qualification experience.
Knowledge and practical experience of child protection and welfare guidelines and legislation.
Access to your own transport.
Direct work experience of working with homeless youth.
Experience of working in a multiagency environment.
