A panel may be formed as a result of this process from which subsequent Basic Grade Speech & Language Therapist appointments within the Services may be made over the next 6 months.
The Role:
We are seeking a Speech and Language Therapist, with a particular interest in supporting people with an intellectual disability to lead full and self-determined lives. Our Speech and Language Therapy Department provides services to adults with an intellectual disability across three sectors located in Counties Roscommon and Galway.
Qualifications:
Successful candidates must be currently registered with CORU, the regulator for health and social care professionals, and eligible for membership of the Irish Association of Speech and Language Therapists (I.A.S.L.T.). Qualifications include: Bachelor of Science in Clinical Speech and Language Studies, University of Dublin, Trinity College Dublin; Bachelor of Science (Speech and Language Therapy), UCC/NUIG; Master of Science in Speech and Language Therapy (Professional Qualification), University of Limerick; or equivalent and recognized by CORU. A dysphagia qualification or equivalent as outlined in “Standards of Practice for Speech & Language Therapists on the Management of Feeding, Eating, Drinking and Swallowing Disorders (Dysphagia)” Irish Association of Speech & Language Therapists (IASLT) 2012 is essential for this post. A full clean driving licence and use of your own car is an essential requirement. Fluency in verbal and written English is also essential.
Experience:
This post is best suited to a therapist with some post-qualification clinical experience. A positive attitude towards working with people with an intellectual disability is essential, and experience in working with adults with disabilities is an advantage. Applicants should outline their work experience and clinical placement experience and also provide details of any other experience with children or adults who have disabilities. Training and/or experience in the use of AAC, Lámh, TEACCH, etc., is an advantage. Experience in the management of feeding, eating, drinking, and swallowing disorders would be desirable but not essential.
Working hours:
70 hours per fortnight based on a 5-day per week duty roster. Core working hours of 9-4 pm must be covered. The Brothers of Charity Services - Ireland use a model of service based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring employees to be flexible in their working hours to provide quality service delivery for each individual.
Remuneration:
A salary scale of €36,296 x 12 increments - €51,962 (Max) pro rata per annum. LSI €52,970 pro rata per annum is payable after 3 years on the maximum of the scale.
The post is permanent, full-time, and pensionable.
Travel/Base:
This post is based in Renmore, Galway city, initially in Renmore House, Woodlands Campus. This base is likely to change within the restructuring of service accommodation.
