Ireland: 6 to 8 weeks from June 16th (including training & preparation) + monthly online meetings from February
UK: 4 to 5 weeks from June 25th (including training & preparation) + monthly online meetings from February
Typical Hours: Monday-Friday 8.30am - 5pm (40 hours per week)
Rate: from €750 (690+60 holiday pay) to €810 (745+65 holiday pay) per week depending on qualifications and experience
Job purpose:
To act as Director of Studies of a Technology Enhanced English Language summer centre for learners of 12-17 years of age as well as the possibility of adult learners in Dublin and Athlone. To manage all academic aspects of the summer programme including learner progression and behavior, staffing, and relations with teachers. The arrivals are from the end of June with the peak period being July continuing into August with reduced numbers.
A typical day would include briefing the academic staff in the morning and subsequently the students and teaching assistants, providing support to teachers when it comes to technology, equipment and materials, assigning teaching assistants to different working posts and debriefing academic staff.
Key responsibilities (non-exhaustive):
1. Implement policies which promote learner collaboration through English and foster a positive learning atmosphere.
2. Manage, collaborate and support the Assistant director of studies.
3. Manage and support the academic staff (teachers, teaching assistants, workshop leaders) at all stages of the course from initial needs assessment to the preparation and feedback stages of each task to the delivery of effective completion of reports and certificates.
4. Ensure the orderly running of the courses (including class placement and class formation).
5. Plan schedule and run trainings and inductions for all academic staff before the course starts.
6. Plan regular class observations to make sure the lessons meet FL standards.
7. Lead course design and materials development that introduces them to different aspects of STEAM.
8. Deal with any academic queries from students, agents, and other interested visitors.
9. Facilitate group leaders, inspectors, and other visitors in observing classes and understanding what it is that we do.
Preparatory (online meetings)
1. Meet with the managing director, academic director, programme manager, recruitment manager and center manager for planning.
2. Assist Centre Manager with the organization of welcome packs, office set up and general preparation of school.
Administrative:
1. Update the data management system.
2. Respond to daily emails regarding learners etc.
3. Maintain accurate records of staff feedback and observations and working hours.
4. Collect and analyze weekly course feedback from students and group leaders.
5. Issue certifications and end-of-course reports.
6. Arrange photos to be taken of each group in action and with end-of-course certs.
Staff:
1. Organize and run induction of all academic staff in advance of the start of course and provide them with developmental feedback during it.
2. Daily briefing/debriefing with the teachers, teaching assistants and STEAM workshop leaders.
3. Assist with the teachers, TAs, STEAM leaders recruitment process.
4. Arrange substitution in the case that a teacher is absent and stepping in if one can’t be found at short notice.
5. Provide technical support to teachers when needed.
6. Check and organize facilities, equipment, material for academic programmes and any online setup needed for the course.
Learners:
1. Act as the primary point of contact for academic queries from students and GL.
2. Ensure that all learners go to class on time after all breaks and coordinate the supervision of breaks.
3. Handle academic-related issues, such as changes in class levels or conduct and attendance.
4. Take overall responsibility for safeguarding and child protection.
Relations:
1. Establish and maintain clear lines of communication with all stakeholders.
2. Handle general queries and questions that arise during the day from academic staff or learners.
3. Give the ADoS support and guidance in the tasks.
4. Liaise closely with the Center Manager to align academic goals with the Summer programme.
5. Liaise closely with the activities manager on STEAM activities and schedule.
Requirements
* Experience running an academic programme with young learners.
* Management experience (at least 1 year).
* TEFL Recognised qualification (CELTA/TESOL).
* Proficient user of Google Suite and especially of Google Sheets.
