Wexford County Council consists of 34 members elected every five years, the most recent local elections having taken place in 2024. The county is divided into the 5 Municipal Districts of Wexford, Rosslare, Gorey-Kilmuckridge, New Ross and Enniscorthy with the local authority administrative headquarters located in Wexford Town.
Wexford County Council provides a diverse, comprehensive and evolving range of services to citizens, businesses and visitors to the county. Amongst the wide range of quality services that are provided to communities are those delivered by the Fire and Emergency Services Department.
Wexford County Council’s Fire and Emergency Services Department provides the following services for the county of Wexford:

* Building Control
* Major Emergency Management
* Civil Defence
An opportunity now exists in Wexford County Council for the position of Chief Fire Officer.
The Chief Fire Officer’s primary function is to manage the County Council’s Fire Service. Reporting to a nominated Director of Services, they will manage and administer an efficient and effective Fire Service in accordance with the Fire Service Acts and applicable associated legislation. They will hold responsibility for the management and administration of Wexford County Council’s Fire and Emergency Service Department, including Major Emergency Planning and Building Control. The CFO’s duties will also include responsibility for strategic planning and the implementation of any associated change requirements throughout the Fire and Emergency Services. The CFO may also be assigned responsibility for the management of any other relevant function(s) at the discretion of the Chief Executive.
The Chief Fire Officer will be expected to prepare budgetary estimates for their area of operation and to work within allocated finances to the best overall effect. They must have the ability to work across section teams and interact with other area/teams and with Chief Fire Officers in adjacent local authority areas.
