General Practitioner or Consultant with a Special Interest in Menopause / Women’s Health

Position Overview
UPMC is seeking a General Practitioner (GP) or Consultant with a special interest in Menopause and Women’s Health to lead women’s health services at UPMC 4th Practice in Mallow, Cork. The role focuses on providing expert clinical care, particularly in menopause management, and contributing to the growth of UPMC’s women’s health services. The successful candidate must be registered on the Irish Medical Council (IMC) Specialist Register and will work closely with UPMC’s multidisciplinary teams and broader network of specialists to deliver comprehensive care. A key aspect of the role involves fostering relationships with external stakeholders and healthcare providers.
Skills and Qualifications
* IMC Registration: Registered on the IMC Specialist Register, with experience in general practice and a special interest in menopause or women’s health.
* Postgraduate Experience: Minimum of 3 years post-graduate experience, particularly in women’s health and health screening services.
* Health Screening Expertise: Experience leading or participating in women’s health screening programmes.
* Collaboration and Relationship-Building: Proven ability to build strong relationships with external healthcare providers and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
* Communication and IT Skills: Excellent verbal, written, and IT skills to support patient care, team collaboration, and data management.

* Referral Pathway Management: Proven experience managing referral pathways for menopause patients, ensuring timely access to specialised care.
* Comprehensive Menopause Care: Expertise in managing menopause symptoms, including hormone replacement therapy (HRT), non-hormonal treatments, and preventive care tailored to midlife women’s health needs.
* Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Strong ability to contribute to multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and support holistic, integrated care.
* Patient-Centred Approach: Commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-focused care, especially for menopause-related health concerns.
* Service Growth and Development: Strategic focus on growing UPMC’s women’s health services, developing referral pathways, and engaging with external healthcare providers.
Roles and Responsibilities
* Patient Care: Deliver expert clinical care, including history taking, physical examination, and investigation, with a focus on menopause and women’s health.
* Referral Pathway Development: Build and maintain private patient referral pathways from GPs and other healthcare professionals.
* Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain relationships with the HSE, health insurance companies, and external healthcare providers.
* Multidisciplinary Team Participation: Attend monthly MDT meetings to ensure integrated patient care.
* Support Menopause Services: Work with UPMC’s women’s health specialists to provide holistic menopause care, including HRT and symptom management.
* Outreach and Promotion: Participate in educational and outreach initiatives to raise awareness of UPMC’s women’s health services.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Clinical KPIs:
* Increase patient numbers for women’s health and menopause services.
Operational KPIs:
* Develop and maintain private patient referral pathways.
* Participate in monthly MDT meetings.
* Ensure follow-up care for patients in health screening programmes.
Outreach and Engagement KPIs:
* Lead educational sessions to promote UPMC’s women’s health services.
Pathway and Relationship KPIs:
* Maintain strong relationships with the HSE, health insurers, and private healthcare providers.
* Collaborate effectively with UPMC specialists for seamless referral pathways.
Reporting Structure
* Clinical Reporting: Reports to the UPMC Clinical Director of Sports Medicine and Institute for Health for clinical governance and oversight.
* Operational Management: Reports to the General Manager for UPMC Sports Medicine and Institute for Health for strategic and operational direction.
