The Flexibility Operations team within Distribution Market and Systems Operation (‘DMSO’) department of ESBN is responsible for the safe and successful day to day operation of flexibility services following handover from the delivery workstreams. This includes operation of Programme Pilots which are already live, as well as future capability to be delivered as ESB Networks establishes flexibility services and markets across multiple sectors in line with the targets in the Climate Action Plan.
A key component of the future Flexibility Operations team will be the Near Real Time Network Operations team, whose responsibilities will include the scheduling and dispatch of flexibility services as appropriate to resolve network constraints and support outage planning and fault response. This team will form a key component of the effective operation of flexibility services on the distribution network, in line with ESB Networks targets as part of the Climate Action Plan as well as the Networks for Net Zero Strategy.
Position Description
The Operations Analyst will be responsible for:
1. Establishing familiarity with enhanced Oracle Network Management System functionality in order to identify network congestion and understand network needs.
2. Validating reliability of power flow and forecasting output from Oracle NMS.
3. Utilising NMS functionality to monitor and model expected network conditions, including use of weather forecasting to predict generation output from renewable generation sources, and identify possible constraints which could be resolved via flexibility services.
4. Execution of various scenarios in the Operations systems with a view to improving forecasting.
5. Developing and implementing processes required to support near time and real time planning activities in conjunction with Operations.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
They must have a good knowledge of power systems (including network and system characteristics and parameters).
Essential capabilities and experience include:
* Good interpersonal skills.
* Good presentation and communication skills.
* Ability to work on own initiative, taking ownership of work/projects.
* Understanding of power system fundamentals, how distribution grid is operated and managed.
* Experience of modelling power system and undertaking load flow analysis.
* Experience of working in Network Operations.
* Experience with Oracle NMS system or similar systems.
* Experience with advanced DMS functionalities like power flow, forecasting, etc.
* Data analytics capability.
Qualifications
* A primary Engineering or equivalent work experience.
Location
This role is Dublin based (specifically Leopardstown). As there will be significant interaction with Operations Staff, there will be required to work on site in Leopardstown 2-3 days per week initially and potentially more in the future as the job requires operating systems in the Networks Distribution Control Centre.
