As a Data Engineer, you will work as part of a team and be responsible for designing and building systems for collecting, storing, and analysing data at scale. Specialising in creating ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines, your primary focus is on managing the flow of data within the organisation.
You will have responsibility for integrating, collating, exploring, cleansing, and verifying the quality of data to ensure it meets subsequent analytical requirements. This role requires a self-starter who takes ownership, shows initiative, has pride in their work, and is self-accountable.
You will be capable of working independently, while promoting a work environment that is mutually respectful, dynamic, and professional.
Key Responsibilities
1. Data Collection, Transformation and Pre-Processing:
1. Acquire and build datasets that align with business needs.
2. Build, test, and maintain database pipeline architectures.
3. Play a critical role in making data accessible for data analysts and data scientists.
4. Build datasets and data models that are efficient for analysis.
5. Create new and maintain existing data validation methods.
6. Assess data quality, data integration, data cleansing and data transformation with a continuous improvement mindset.
7. Develop and maintain efficient and scalable ETL processes and pipelines to integrate data from new external sources into an existing cohesive Oracle data warehouse.
8. Understand databases and their capabilities, and be proficient on Schemas, Tables, & SQL.
9. Generate clean, readable, high quality PL SQL.
10. SQL debugging skills and query performance optimisation.
11. Build processing pipelines which can be used to create and test new features as part of machine learning experiments.
12. Ensure compliance with data governance and security policies.
2. Insights, People, Innovation:
1. Collaborate with business stakeholders and management to gain understanding of key business objectives.
2. Using data, discover relationships between and insights into business problems and support decision making; visualise results of data analysis, design dashboards and use storytelling methods to showcase informative, intuitive, data visualisations for business stakeholders via end user platforms such as Oracle Analytics, QlikView, Power BI, Tableau etc.
3. Foster a culture of data-driven decision-making throughout the organization by promoting awareness and understanding of the value of data.
4. Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data and analytics.
5. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and optimization within the data and analytics function.
6. Anticipate future data and analytics requirements and design scalable solutions that can accommodate the organisation’s growth.
7. Identify training needs within the organization and assist in developing programs to enhance data literacy among team members.
8. Lead initiatives to build a data-driven culture, encouraging teams to use data in their day-to-day activities.
9. Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences – both verbally and in writing.
10. Evaluate and manage relationships with external data and analytics vendors.
11. Develop a clear understanding of our data platform cost and propose solutions to optimize it.
Essential Criteria
1. A relevant third level degree such as Data Science, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics, Machine Learning.
2. 5+ years’ data engineering / analysis / reporting experience with knowledge in data querying, data mining, data segmentation.
3. Oracle Experience.
4. A deep understanding of data processing and storage technologies.
5. Experience working with distributed systems with high data volumes.
6. Experience on business intelligence data modelling and familiarity with data warehouse concepts such as star schema, data de-normalizing patterns.
7. Be creative, data and process driven, and detail oriented.
8. Highly organised, and self-directed with an ability to work on their own initiative and be able to multitask to meet challenging deadlines.
9. Ambitious, with a positive can-do attitude, resilient, can deal with ambiguity.
