DESIGNATED EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATOR
The Supply Designated Early Childhood Educator (DECE) reports to the Principal and partners with the classroom teacher to plan and implement learning programs enhancing our students’ cognitive, physical, social and emotional development. This position provides supervision and age-appropriate learning programs for students. Supply DECEs are scheduled on an as-needed basis, Monday to Friday, with an hourly wage of $26.02 per hour plus 4% in lieu of vacation pay.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Partnering with the classroom teacher, develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children.
2. Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, taking children to local points of interest and providing opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity.
3. Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children.
4. Assess the abilities, interests and needs of children and discuss progress or problems with the classroom teacher.
5. Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural concerns and prepare reports as required.
6. Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits.
7. Act in a manner consistent with the professional requirements related to all aspects of their work.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. A minimum of a two (2) year college diploma in Early Childhood Education or related field is required.
2. Registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators (OCECE).
3. A minimum of two (2) years experience working in a school, early learning center, educational setting or registered childcare is required.
4. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCVI) training is an asset.
5. Knowledge of the Ministry of Education full day early learning program.
6. Demonstrated experience with age appropriate programs.
7. Knowledge of the early acquisition of literacy and numerical skills.
8. Experience with classroom management.
9. Good verbal and written communication skills.
10. Patience, empathy, and the ability to work closely with students with complex needs.
11. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and discretion.
12. Ability to attend work on a regular basis.
