This project draws on international best practice in the field of engineering education to enable a student-centred, project-centric and technologically innovative approach to course provision.
Ensuring graduates have the skills and knowledge required to navigate future challenges and disruptive technologies faced by the manufacturing sector in Ireland.
The REEd I project is made up of a multidisciplinary team based across Munster Technological University and our partner, the University of Limerick.
About the Job
We are looking for a highly motivated research engineer to work in close collaboration with leading renewable wind energy companies, regionally and nationally, to drive forward the research, design and development of an innovative and agile offering to meet the skills needs of the offshore renewable wind energy sector.
The successful candidate will collaborate on cutting-edge technologies and advancements in manufacturing to ensure REEd I students become Engineers of the Future.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Conduct in-depth research on offshore wind energy technologies, industry trends, and emerging skills needs.
2. Input into the design, development and validation of stackable qualifications for workforce upskilling and lifelong learning, ensuring compliance with academic and industry standards.
3. Develop and deliver engineering modules and research-driven coursework, integrating applied research.
4. Establish and implement a structured industry partnership strategy, fostering curriculum co-creation with renewable energy sector leaders.
5. Engage with government policy frameworks, particularly Ireland's Offshore Wind Skills Action Plan, ensuring alignment between academic outputs and national energy transition goals.
6. Design and implement a structured process for recruiting industry partners, expanding placement opportunities for students.
7. Actively pursue and submit proposals for research funding, targeting industry-sponsored projects.
8. Support the Head of Department - STEM, Director of REEd I in industry outreach and engagement, particularly in the co-design and development of programmes.
9. Develop and implement industry survey and feedback mechanisms with the REEd I Project Manager and Head of Department - STEM, Director of REEd I to drive continuous improvement.
10. Assist with the organisation of events and information sessions for the project. Attend relevant meetings, learning events and conferences.
11. Complete any necessary reporting on the programme.
12. Attend other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Principal Investigator.
Qualifications and Experience
* A level 8 degree in a relevant discipline.
* A PhD degree in a relevant discipline.
* 5 years of relevant industry experience.
* Proven ability to collaborate with industry partners, securing research funding and fostering knowledge exchange.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to derive appropriate technical solutions to complex engineering problems.
* Strong publication record in a relevant area.
* An ability to take ownership of technical problems, stakeholder management and development of robust and sustainable solutions.
* An ability to identify and evaluate emerging technologies and where necessary, influence research direction accordingly.
* A record of good organisational and team-working skills with an ability or amplitude to plan and manage small to medium-size projects.
