GENERAL PURPOSE
The Centralized Loan Officer is responsible for evaluating and recommending approvals of residential mortgage and consumer loans and advising borrowers on financial status and methods of payments. Additionally, this position is responsible for originating and processing branch, online, and mobile loan applications at the credit union. This position promotes attention to increasing loan volumes from a centralized setting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Process all member residential mortgage, consumer loan/new account applications and correspondence.
2. Provide accurate, courteous, friendly, timely and professional service to all members.
3. Accurately process all assigned reports and projects in a timely manner.
4. Meet or exceed application to close ratio, closed loan volume, closed loan units, funded loan goal, and loan cross-sale ratio every month.
5. Interview all loan applicants for requested loans as well as for other potential future financial needs.
6. Review and make suggested recommendations on all loan requests submitted to underwriting.
7. Serve as a loan processor to collect supporting documentation to approve and complete any loan file.
8. Prepare loan applications to process further or to assign to appropriate lending officer.
9. Prepare loan documents for approved loans according to policies, procedures, and regulations.
10. Present loan documents according to policies and regulations for members' signature.
11. Ensure the protection of the credit union's assets through adequate and accurate verification of property values, tax assessments, members' employment history and earnings, credit information, flood certification and other necessary data utilized in loan decisioning.
12. Work closely with Vice President of Lending to improve processes, procedures, and efficiencies in the centralized lending department. Support promotions and strategies to meet credit union goals.
13. Discuss denial reasons with loan applicants and provide information to help improve their financial position.
14. Participate in Credit Union business development and community relations activities.
15. Create and maintain broker contacts.
16. Comply with all company, third party, local, state, and federal guidelines, rules, and regulations associated with residential lending.
17. Adhere to all service standards as outlined in the credit union's policies and procedures.
18. Ensure compliance of all residential real estate loans with organizational policies and procedures in accordance with BSA and federal regulation compliance.
19. Complete accurate and timely required BSA documentation in compliance with BSA policies and procedures, including but not limited to OFAC, CTR, and SAR.
20. Ensure that lending operations are conducted in accordance with established Credit Union policies, procedures, approval authority, and all fair lending laws (i.e., Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Consumer Credit Protection Act, Truth In Lending Act, Fair Housing Act, and Home Mortgage Disclosure Act, etc.).
21. Ensure compliance with the non-discrimination provisions of applicable fair lending laws and regulations.
22. Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY
A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary.
Thorough knowledge of principles and processes for providing member and personal services, including member needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of member satisfaction. Considers the relative costs and benefits of potential actions and chooses the most appropriate one. Talks to others to convey information effectively.
Knowledge of and ability to apply principles of lending and lending regulations. Thorough knowledge of lending products and credit union lending policies.
Must be able to work independently and prioritize workload.
EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING
A high school education or GED.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of two years lending and residential mortgage loan origination background preferred but would consider other related experience. Prefer extensive financial institution background.
