Hours of work:
Full-Time 35 hours per week 5/7 working week, occasional weekend work is required

Beaumont Hospital is a major 820-bed teaching hospital associated with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. It is the National Centre for Neurosurgery and also has significant departments of Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology, Neuropathology and Neuroradiology. It accepts primary, secondary and tertiary referrals. Specialised Clinical Neuroscience services provided include neuromuscular clinics, an active epileptology and epilepsy surgery programme, a neurophysiological intraoperative monitoring programme, migraine clinics, and an acute stroke service. Several other specialties including medicine for the old age, general medicine and surgery, orthopaedics and endocrinology and rheumatology refer for neurodiagnostic testing.
Clinical Neurophysiology is a member of the NEUROCENT Directorate, which includes Neuroscience Ophthalmology, Cochlear Implant and ENT. A range of services including electroencephalography (EEG), nerve conduction studies (NCS), electromyography (EMG) intraoperative monitoring (IOM) and video telemetry EEG, botulinum toxin clinic for neurological disorders and carpal tunnel clinics are delivered.
Responsibilities:
DUTIES
* To carry out his/her duties under the supervision and control of the Chief Neuro-physiologist or other such person designated for that purpose by the Chief Executive or designated officer.
* Participation in patient care i.e. preparation and reassurance of patient.
* To record, measure and monitor selected neurophysiological activities of patients as required by a Clinician, including EEGs, Nerve Conduction Studies and long term video EEG studies.
* Calibration and maintenance of all equipment which includes sterilisation where necessary.
* To note medication and know its possible effects on the test to be carried out.
* In certain circumstances, to modify procedures and to know when and where - either to carry out photic stimulation and hyperventilation as instructed by Clinician and/or in accordance with established practice.
* Informal, in-service training of students.
* To initiate and participate in dealing with Medical Emergencies including Cardio/Pulmonary resuscitation.
* Portable testing in some cases.
* History taking and interpretation of request forms.
* To observe and describe any abnormal behaviour occurring during procedures.
* Availability outside normal working hours for emergency situations.
* To carry out the duties of the Neuro-physiologist in the hospital and at such other locations as may be required by the Chief Executive or designated officer.
* To perform such other duties as may from time to time be assigned by the Chief Executive or designated officer.

* On the latest date for receiving completed applications for the office a candidate must:-
* Possess the BSc in Clinical Measurement from Dublin Institute of Technology/TU Dublin or equivalent
* Possess an equivalent relevant scientific qualification (Level 8) as confirmed by the Irish Institute of Clinical Measurements Physiology (IICMP).
* Or if qualified in or prior to 2005, possess the Certificate in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement (MPPM) from Dublin Institute of Technology
* Or possess an equivalent relevant scientific qualification as confirmed by the Irish Institute of Clinical Measurement Physiology (IICMP).
