What You Will Achieve
Position Summary:
The Mechanical Apprenticeship is a system of employment focused training and education which enables a person to obtain the Skills, Knowledge and Competence required to perform effectively as a craft person within industry. The apprenticeship program consists of an On-the-Job and Off-the-Job Training program. This training is carried out using 7 phases alternating between On-the-Job and Off-the-Job Training and Education.
Key Responsibilities:
The primary function of the Apprentice is to engage in the Apprentice Mechanical program to learn and develop new practical craft-related skills, knowledge, and competence by:
* Complying with Health and Safety requirements
* Working and learning from experienced craft persons
* Working with electricity electronics, Pneumatics, and Scada/mechanical systems
* Understanding and using physics
* Using mathematics to solve technical or scientific problems
* Being responsible for controlling or adjusting equipment
* Working on machines/processes
* Understanding technical drawings and diagrams
* Accuracy and attention to detail
* Being accurate with numbers in counting, measuring and arithmetic
* Working with a variety of specialised hand tools, power tools, measure and test equipment
* Keeping accurate records of all calibrations or reports
* Being well organised and careful with practical tasks
* Taking responsibility for their own learning, including the allocation of study time
* Passing all their phase exams (theory, practical skills demonstrations).
Phase Details:
1. Phase 1: Minimum 12 weeks With Employer - Induction Training including Health & Safety Training, Tools & Equipment, and Basic Skills.
2. Phase 2: Delivered in Training Centre (27 weeks) - Course Content includes general workshop skills, Turning, Milling, Thermal Processes, Introduction to CNC, and Abrasive Wheels.
3. Phase 3: Minimum 26 weeks With Employer - Work Based Training and Assessments.
4. Phase 4: Delivered in Educational College (21 weeks) - Course Content includes Bench Fitting, Turning, Milling, Thermal Processes, Plant, Machine Maintenance & Electrical, Automation & Control, and CNC Programming.
5. Phase 5: Minimum 26 weeks With Employer - Work Based Training and Assessments.
6. Phase 6: Delivered in Educational College (11 weeks) - Course Content includes Manufacturing Processes, Integrated Automation and Control, CAD/CAM, IT, Plant and Machine Diagnostics, and Thermal Processes.
7. Phase 7: Minimum 12 weeks With Employer - Work Based Training and Assessments.
The overall duration of this apprenticeship is a minimum of 4 years provided all phases are successfully completed. On successful completion of the programme the learner is awarded a Level 6 Advanced Certificate Craft – Electrical Instrumentation.
