HKA is working on behalf of Jacobs and this role is to support Jacobs’ work through HKA.
Qualifications:
MECHANIC IN TRAINING - WATER/WASTEWATER TREATMENT FACILITY
1. High school diploma or GED required.
2. Must be able to adequately perform periodic heavy manual labor under adverse conditions.
3. Must have dependable safety and work record.
4. Must have valid driver’s License.
5. Experience maintaining and troubleshooting motors of 10 HP or higher, repairing/replacing various types of valves and pumps.
6. Knowledge of occupational safety rules and practices as they relate to confined spaces and mechanical equipment; and ability to perform strenuous work in a variety of adverse conditions including confined spaces.
7. Knowledge of general geographic area.
8. Ability to both understand and communicate oral and written instructions.
9. Ability to investigate, interpret, and complete work order forms.
10. Skill in the safe operation of associated mechanical and electronic equipment as it relates to the installation, repair and maintenance of wastewater and water plant pumps, motors, piping, and structures.
11. Knowledge of scope and function of different types of Plant equipment.
12. Ability to work with the public and fellow employees in a professional and effective manner.
13. Ability to read and comprehend work orders, equipment/tool manuals, safety manuals, computer screen, computer print outs, and other printed and/or written material as it relates to the job.
14. Ability to understand and comprehend electrical schematic/utility drawings as they relate to lift stations, water plants and sewage treatment facilities.
15. Ability to identify and comprehend colors as they relate to traffic and/or road signs, safety equipment, utility markings, electrical wiring, pump diagrams, and other utility related materials.
16. Ability to hear and understand instructions and directions given in the English language and spoken in a normal tone of voice with someone face-to-face and over the phone.
17. Ability to write up work orders, warehouse material requisitions, vehicle service forms, and brief explanations that relate to job task and/or problems in a legible and understandable manner.
18. Ability to use a variety of manually operated and/or electric/pneumatic powered handheld tools such as, but not necessarily limited to, socket wrenches, open end box wrenches, screw drivers, drills, impact drivers, and saws in an efficient and effective manner.
19. Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs. and carry such items over uneven terrain and load/unload them from vehicle.
20. Ability to work in confined spaces such as small above ground lift station structures, underground or 'can' type lift stations, lift station wet wells, lift station valve vaults, sewer manholes and excavated holes/ditches.
21. Ability to work during night and/or early morning hours or for extended periods when required.
22. Ability to perform periodic heavy labor as required.
23. Ability to maintain a professional attitude while working with others in confined spaces and/or under situations of duress.
24. Ability to participate in weekly rotating 'after hours' call out duty that requires prompt response on a 24-hour bases including weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities:
1. Perform scheduled maintenance on wastewater and water plant equipment, piping, electrical components, and structures.
2. Assist in repair and/or replacement of water and wastewater plant motors, pumps, and associated equipment.
3. Assist electrician in repair and/or replacement of electrical motors, panels, and components.
4. Correctly diagnose equipment failure problems and be able to instigate proper repair procedures.
5. Work within confined spaces such as sewage/water equipment tanks.
6. Operate and maintain equipment in accordance with manufacturer instructions.
7. Knowledge and skill to operate the necessary equipment and troubleshooting aids for failures at water and wastewater plant sites.
