Job Title: Cook Manager
Main Function of Job:
To plan and cook nutritional meals (including baking) to meet the needs of the residents, within the Christian ethos and aims of the Council for Social Witness.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Food preparation, cooking and baking.
2. Stock ordering and management.
3. Prepare vegetables.
4. Prepare snacks (e.g. tea, sandwiches, suppers etc.)
5. Serve food.
6. Clean and tidy work areas in the kitchen, including shelves, drawers and cooker.
7. Wash dishes.
8. Clean floors, tiles and appliances.
9. Take rubbish to bins.
10. Participate in staff meetings within the home.
11. Participate in any training sessions held in the home.
12. Carry out any other reasonable duty which is necessary for the support and well-being of the residents.
Requirements:
1. Sympathy with the Christian ethos of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.
2. Integrity, honesty, and patience.
3. Understanding of the needs of the elderly in a nursing/residential home situation.
4. Even temperament.
5. Ability to work as a member of the caring team.
6. Ability to treat residents as individuals and tolerate their likes and dislikes.
7. Respect for the authority and direction of the senior members of Staff in the Home.
Criteria:
1. Qualifications and Knowledge:
o Essential: Understanding of and respect for the needs of older people; Awareness of health and safety practices within a catering and residential environment. Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
o Desirable: NVQ2 in Food Preparation & Cooking (or equivalent qualification).
2. Relevant Experience:
o Essential: Experience of catering outside a domestic setting.
o Desirable: Experience of working with older people.
3. Personal Attributes:
o Essential: Integrity, honesty, patience, and an even temperament. Ability to work on own initiative. Responsible and mature attitude to residents and duties. Ability to work as a member of a caring team.
4. Physical Requirements:
o Essential: Health such as to allow for attendance reliability and work proficiency. Personal dress and presentation must meet Health & Hygiene standards.
5. Special Circumstances:
o Essential: Willingness to work additional hours to meet the requirements of the Home. Willingness to behave in a manner which respects the Christian ethos of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.
