Position Overview
Vision Ireland's National Training Centre (Dublin) is seeking a Rehabilitation Instructor to provide specialist assessment, training, and support for individuals with sight loss. This role focuses on equipping working-age adults with the essential skills to enhance independence, access employment or education, and improve overall quality of life.
As part of Vision Ireland's Employment, Training & Academia (ETA) team, the instructor will develop and deliver personalised rehabilitation programmes, ensuring learners can confidently navigate daily life and work environments.

Responsibilities
Assessment & Individualised Training Plans:
Conduct in-depth functional assessments to evaluate the impact of vision loss on daily living and employment prospects.
Develop and implement individualised rehabilitation plans, tailored to the unique needs of each learner.
Provide practical skills training to promote independent living, mobility, and workplace readiness.
Core Rehabilitation Training Areas
Independent Living Skills: Support learners in self-care, home management, and daily tasks.
Maximising Residual Vision: Teach strategies for optimising remaining sight through adaptive techniques.
Compensatory Skills: Train individuals in alternative techniques for reading, writing, and communication.
Assistive Technology & Communication: Introduce and train learners in screen readers, magnification tools, Braille, and alternative formats.
Orientation & Mobility (O&M): Support learners in safe and independent travel, including electronic travel aids and GPS applications.
Employment & Education Access: Provide guidance on workplace adjustments, interview preparation, and transitioning into education/training.
Learner Support & Engagement
Offer emotional support and empowerment coaching to individuals adjusting to vision loss.
Work closely with families, carers, and employers to ensure a holistic support approach.
Refer learners to additional support services as needed.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
Work within Vision Ireland's multidisciplinary team, liaising with ETB tutors, employers, and healthcare professionals.
Engage with government agencies, statutory bodies, and community organisations to promote inclusion.
Contribute to policy development and service enhancement for individuals with sight loss.
Documentation & Compliance
Maintain detailed records of learner progress, training sessions, and outcome reports.
Adhere to Vision Ireland policies, including data protection, safeguarding, and health & safety.
Ensure compliance with QQI and other accreditation requirements where applicable.
Professional Development
Stay informed about advancements in accessible education and visual impairment-related research.
Attend relevant workshops, conferences, and training opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
Collaboration And Teamwork
Work collaboratively with other Vision Ireland staff and external stakeholders to support a holistic approach to training and support services.
Engage in regular meetings to share best practices and ensure consistency in program delivery.
Essential Qualifications and Requirements:
* Diploma in Rehabilitation Studies (Visual Impairment) or equivalent.
* Experience in teaching, rehabilitation, or disability services, with a focus on adult learners.
* Ability to work independently while managing a caseload.
* Strong interpersonal skills with a commitment to person-centred training.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and assistive technologies.
Desirable Qualifications:
* ACVREP certification (or willingness to obtain).
* Experience in low vision aids, Braille instruction, and alternative formats.
* Familiarity with dual sensory impairment and additional disabilities.
* Knowledge of QQI accreditation and training frameworks.
