Job Purpose
The Flight Test Ground Support (FTGS) role at Manna is critical for ensuring the smooth operation and safety of our UAV Flight Test Centre. Working closely with UAV Test Pilots and Engineering teams, the FTGS is responsible for ground support tasks that keep our testing environment efficient and safe. This includes preparing drones for flight, performing pre-flight checks, and providing real-time assistance during flight operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Support the efficient operation of the Moorock flight test centre ensuring all flight test equipment is organised, operational and safe for use.
2. Support the preparation and maintenance of UAVs prior to flight, including routine inspections, lifting/carrying 25kg UAVs, battery and power management, and preparation of delivery payloads.
3. Provide assistance during flight operations, monitoring airspace, ground space and site perimeter, and providing situational awareness to the flight test team.
4. Operate handheld radio equipment to assist in the organisation of flight test activity.
5. Adhere to all relevant safety protocols, including handling UAVs, ground equipment, and ensuring safe practices are maintained at all times.
6. Understand and train to support emergency response plans.
7. Ensure compliance with all regulatory and company guidelines for UAV operations and site safety standards.
8. Conduct routine inspections and basic maintenance of ground support equipment, such as aircraft daily inspections, daily charging station inspections, launch/landing pad maintenance and securing tools.
9. Report and log any equipment issues or maintenance needs.
10. Assist in managing inventory of essential ground support tools, spare parts, and safety equipment.
11. Support the manufacture of UAV components.
12. Maintain accurate records of daily operations, including flight logs, equipment usage, and incident reports.
13. Support post-flight procedures including recording test results, performing equipment checks, and ensuring data integrity.
14. Work closely with UAV pilots, engineers, and technicians to ensure effective communication during testing phases.
15. Participate in debrief sessions to capture lessons learned and improve ground support processes for future operations.
Qualifications
1. Leaving Certificate, or equivalent. Technical or vocational training in UAV operations, or a related field is advantageous.
2. Experience in UAV operations or general support roles (such as site labourer, bar staff, supermarket staff) preferred.
3. Familiarity with UAV components, electronics, or aviation equipment is desirable.
Skills and Attributes
1. Ability to operate technical equipment, including computers, radios, and basic electronic tools.
2. Physically capable of handling tasks that involve lifting, moving equipment, and outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
3. Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
4. Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
Additional Requirements
1. Willingness to work in outdoor environments and occasionally adapt to extended hours during test phases.
2. Valid B or B+E driver’s licence desirable.
Starting salary: €24,000 - €27,000 DOE
