Cartoon Saloon, established in 1999 by Paul Young, Tomm Moore, and Nora Twomey, is a world renowned animation studio with five Academy Award® and two Golden Globe® nominations and many award wins including BAFTA® and Emmy®. Located in Kilkenny, Ireland, the studio produces brave and beautiful shorts, feature films, and TV series. Cartoon Saloon is the founder and host of Kilkenny Animated, an annual festival of visual storytelling incorporating exhibitions, talks and performances celebrating the creativity of the animation craft.
* Creating Posing in TV Paint, as preparation for the animation team
* Posing will be based on the animatic, layout, and model sheet packs
* Posing will include:
Storytelling keys which reflect the character's acting required for the scene
Important expressions of the characters
Start and end drawings of a particular movement
* Create clear and decisive guidelines with the purpose of sharing with the Posing Team
* Technical checking and creative problem solving as needed
* Ability to read storyboards and brief artists on poses which are on model and follow the established direction of the project
* Attending all director reviews, KOs and any other meetings relevant to the Posing Dept.
* To brief each artist on their assigned tasks, keeping in mind continuity and composition
* To help each artist adhere to their assigned quotas and subsequently communicate and help resolve any issues that impact expected on-quota weekly approvals for the department.
* To ensure consistency and continuity of Poses
* Following up on any retake or review notes and providing feedback to the team.
* Work according to the expected schedule
* Supervising Posing Leads and Artists
* Reviewing poses with the Director and becoming familiar with any potential issues that may arise with a pose before assigning to an artist
* Working closely with Department Production Coordinators to facilitate workflow.
* To deliver technically clearly named and well organised files following established protocols
* Ensure quality and style of the film is consistently achieved in your work and that all notes/retakes are added.
* Lead and guide the team, alongside Production, in developing solutions if limitations of schedule are flagged as a possible issue.
* Responsibility for Skills Development including but not limited to, working with the HR and production crew to identify skills development goals and ensure crew members are completing their learnings logs, ensure all skills development plans are completed within a timely manner, and fully signed off by the end of the training period.
* Maintain effective communication with all crew members, ensuring as a senior member of the team, any feedback or issue raised is done so in a respectful, supportive and constructive manner.
* Promote a good work ethic and positive atmosphere within the team
* Assist in keeping information relation to the projects confidential and secure
* Attend and contribute to relevant meetings and trainings as needed
* The ideal candidate should have at least 2 years experience as a Posing Supervisor for theatrically distributed 2D features and/or aired television series.
* Excellent problem solving skills
* Ability to meet deadlines as established by production management
* Ability to multitask and prioritise
* Excellent organisational and communication skills
* Strong attention to detail
* Promote a good work ethic and positive atmosphere within the team
* Assist in keeping information related to the project confidential and secure
* Attend and contribute to relevant meetings and trainings as needed
* Knowledge of asset tracking and database software (such as Flow) is a distinct advantage
* Be available on Google Chat and by emails during working hours
