Job Title: Senior Scientist, Antibody Engineering
Department: BioMedicine Design
Position Reports to: PRD & ORD BioTx
2. Job Purpose:
Antibody engineering and screening sciences within a nimble (multi-project) and cutting-edge biotherapeutic discovery team in our Protein Discovery and Optimization Group. Our laboratory is located at Grange Castle in Dublin, Ireland and focuses on the application of advanced protein engineering technologies towards the discovery and optimization of novel protein therapeutics, with a particular emphasis on monoclonal antibodies. Pfizer is a leader in the development of protein biopharmaceuticals and has a successful track record of multiple product approvals in cancer and inflammatory diseases. Reporting Structure: Report to Research Group Leader
4. Job Responsibilities:
1. Perform world-class antibody discovery & optimisation work (including phage and yeast display technologies, library construction, selection, screening and sequencing) within a team of researchers addressing the business requirements of BMD.
2. Provide technical support in protein engineering for drug discovery, across functions.
3. Perform trouble-shooting and resolution of experimental issues.
4. Mentor technical training in key technology areas for group members, where needed.
5. Author reports, publications and technical manuals for lab experimental procedures.
6. Facilitate cross-functional project teams internally within the local team, across BMD and between BMD and WRD research units (RUs).
7. Implement effective technology improvement processes by which optimised scientific and technological solutions are provided to BMD and the RUs.
8. Develop and maintain productive links with colleagues in BMD and across WRD, to maintain up to date information, skills and knowledge base for the team.
9. The role may evolve to include project leadership.
5. Education/Experience:
1. Minimum qualification BSc & PhD degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular biology or equivalent discipline.
2. Three years’ experience in a biotechnology/biochemistry research environment is preferred.
3. Experience in working on key roles in biotherapeutic drug discovery projects is preferred but not essential.
4. Proven experience in protein engineering and/or therapeutic antibody discovery is preferred but not essential.
5. Functional knowledge and experience of protein display technologies and the use of recombinant antibody libraries is strongly preferred.
6. Proven hands-on experience with display technologies.
7. Proven ability to organise and conduct therapeutic antibody display discovery campaigns.
8. Any experience with project or people management should be highlighted.
