The Brothers of Charity Services Ireland – Southern Region is a major voluntary organisation, which provides age related residential, educational and day services for people with intellectual disabilities, autism and communication disorders throughout the Cork and Kerry area.

CLERICAL OFFICER (Grade III)

Permanent Full-Time (35 hours per week)
Location: Cork Services
A panel may be formed from this competition from which future full-time/part-time vacancies may be filled throughout our Services in Cork.
The Role:
The post holder will be required to provide secretarial and administrative support to the Managers and team. The successful candidate/s will work closely with staff in all departments across the services in addition to working with external agencies. He/she must demonstrate a high degree of initiative and flexibility and have gained the necessary relevant experience to take on responsibility for the smooth running of a busy office.
Professional Qualifications, Experience etc.
1. Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:
2. Obtained at least Grade D (or pass) in Higher or Ordinary level in five subjects from the approved list of subjects in the Department of Education established Leaving Certificate Examination or Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme or Leaving Certificate Applied. OR
3. Pass an examination of at least equivalent standard OR
4. Satisfactory relevant experience which encompasses demonstrable equivalent skills.
5. Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability, including a high standard of suitability and administrative ability, for the proper discharge of the office.
6. Have good communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to deal with the public and work as part of a team.
7. Have 3 years post qualification experience of working in an administrative/office environment; previous experience of working within the Medical/Health Service would be desirable.
8. It is desirable that candidates have administrative coordination experience working at whole service level.
9. Be computer literate including proficiency in Microsoft Office and knowledge and proficiency of using information systems.
10. Have excellent organisational and co-ordination skills.
11. Have the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
12. Have commitment to teamwork.
13. Have the ability to be flexible and work on your own initiative.
14. Have confidence, interest, and enthusiasm and possess a friendly and positive approach to service users and staff.
15. Have a full driving licence which qualifies you to drive on Irish roads with means of transport.
16. Flexibility around hours of work is essential for this post.
Age:
The Public Service Superannuation (Age of Retirement) Act, 2018 set 70 years as the compulsory retirement age for public servants. Public Servants not affected by this legislation: Public servants recruited between 1 April 2004 and 31 December 2012 (new entrants) have no compulsory retirement age. Public servants recruited since 1 January 2013 are members of the Single Pension Scheme and have a compulsory retirement age of 70.
Health:
Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
Character:
Candidates for and any person holding the office must be of good character.
Salary Scale: €29,810 - €46,948 including 1 LSI pro-rata per annum (1/10/24 Consolidated Scales). Pro-rata if working part-time hours.
