Merchants Quay Ireland is a national voluntary organisation that helps people who are homeless and those caught in addiction. We provide frontline services, practical supports, pathways towards recovery and innovative responses to the issues of drug use and homelessness in Ireland, working with a harm reduction ethos.

WHY VOLUNTEER WITH MQI?
As a volunteer with MQI you will have a unique opportunity to experience our work and to engage and work to support people dealing with homelessness and addiction.
* Merchants Quay Ireland was originally staffed entirely by volunteers, who have contributed highly to the overall success of the organisation.
* Volunteers play a very important role within the organisation; their involvement is encouraged and supported whenever possible.
* Merchants Quay Ireland offer clearly defined roles with full training and supervision provided.
* Financial assistance to cover public transport travel costs incurred travelling between MQI services, when supported by receipts.
* The volunteer will support the Jane’s Place Women’s Service Team.
* Rewarding and challenging work as part of a team.
* Annual social events to acknowledge and recognise your contribution.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Manage the Riverbank OAS Hairdressing salon during your volunteer times, chat with clients, wash, cut and style hair, offer hair care advice.
2. Engage with our Jane’s Place clients in a welcoming and supportive manner.
3. Maintain high personal hygiene standards.
4. Comply with Health and Safety regulations.
5. Adhere to all necessary training.
6. Report faulty equipment.
7. Participate as a team member.
8. Participate and carry out any additional duties as required by your line manager.
9. Help fulfil Merchants Quay Ireland's aims and objectives.
10. Perform volunteer duties to the best of one’s ability.
11. Adhere to the signed volunteer agreement.
12. Develop working relationships with clients.
13. Help in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment.
14. Attend support and supervision sessions.
15. Comply with all administration, filing and paperwork requirements in the service.
16. Adhere to the organisation's boundaries and confidentiality policy in all interactions with MQI’s clients.
17. Adhere to the organisation's Code of Conduct.
18. Be empathetic, non-judgemental, patient, and supportive towards others.
19. Be reliable, flexible with a willingness to get involved and help out.
20. The ability to engage and motivate individuals in a gentle manner.
21. Be open to learning new skills and trainings.
22. All volunteers will require Garda clearance through MQI for this position.
23. Produce two references.
