The Role: We are seeking a Senior Speech and Language Therapist, with a particular interest in supporting people with an intellectual disability to lead full and Self-Determined lives.
Our Speech and Language Therapy Department, provides services to adults with an intellectual disability across three sectors located in Counties Roscommon and Galway.
These posts are Temporary Full-time, covering a maternity leave and is based in County Roscommon.
We are willing to consider one full time role.
The successful candidate will support school leavers, new to the Brothers of Charity Services Day Services, one day per week.
There will be opportunities to develop skills to support adults with an intellectual disability in the areas of FEDS, Communication, AAC and Digital and Accessible technology within a supportive SLT team and within the context of the multidisciplinary team.
Our Speech and Language Therapy Department has a strong commitment to ongoing professional development and specific interests are encouraged and supported.
We meet regularly and you will be provided with a high level of support, supervision and mentoring.
Qualifications/Skills: Successful candidates must be:
Currently registered with CORU, the regulator for health and social care professionals, and eligible for membership of the Irish Association of Speech and Language Therapists (I.A.S.L.T.).
Qualifications as follows: Bachelor of Science in Clinical Speech and Language Studies, University of Dublin, Trinity College Dublin or, Bachelor of Science (Speech and Language Therapy), UCC/NUIG or, Master of Science in Speech and Language Therapy (Professional Qualification), University of Limerick or A Speech & Language qualification approved for registration with CORU and equivalent to the above. A dysphagia qualification or equivalent as outlined in "Standards of Practice for Speech & Language Therapists on the Management of Feeding, Eating, Drinking and Swallowing Disorders (Dysphagia)" Irish Association of Speech & Language Therapists (IASLT) 2012 is essential for this post.
Current skills at a basic independent practitioner level and experience in managing a FEDS caseload are highly desirable.
A full clean Driving Licence and use of your own car is an essential requirement.
Fluency in verbal and written English is an essential requirement of this post.
Experience: This post is suitable for a Speech and Language Therapist with:
•A minimum of three years post graduate clinical Speech and Language Therapy experience.
•Clinical experience in the independent management of feeding, eating, drinking and swallowing disorders is highly desirable.
•One year clinical experience in the management of adults with an intellectual disability is desirable.
•Training and / or experience in the use of Lámh,Talking Mats, AAC etc.
Working hours: 42 hours per fortnight.
Hours of work can be work flexible, however core hours of 9.30am to 3pm must be covered.
Annual Leave: 29 days pro-rata per annum.
Remuneration: Department of Health Speech and Language Therapist, Senior salary scale (01st October 2024) - €62,038 x 8 increments - €73,048 pro-rata per annum.
Tenure: These positions are temporary, part-Time and pensionable linked on a specific purpose basis to a permanent employee's leave within the Services.
Travel base: The person appointed must provide his/her own car and must furnish an indemnity from Insurers in favour of the employer.
Travelling expenses at the appropriate rate will be paid in respect of travel necessarily performed in the discharge of duty.
Work and travel base will be agreed on appointment.
The location will be Lanesboro St offices, Roscommon.
