Senior Psychologist required for locum position with the Irish Prison Service in Dublin. This will be a split role across two sites, Mountjoy Prison High Support Unit and Cloverhill prison.
Job Description
The client group includes individuals who are mentally unwell, including those awaiting a bed or returning from the National Forensic Mental Health Service as a step-down.
Mountjoy prison is a closed, medium-security prison for adult males, serving as the main committal prison for Dublin city and county. Cloverhill prison is also a closed, medium-security prison for adult males, primarily catering to remand prisoners committed from the Leinster area.
Key Responsibilities
* Complete comprehensive assessments and formulate individualized plans for referred individuals.
* Develop behavior monitoring procedures for each individual and provide a significant specialist contribution to Care and Management Planning.
* Engage in and supervise evidence-based psychological interventions as recommended in the Care and Management Plan.
Assess and intervene with individuals presenting with various mental health difficulties, including mood and anxiety disorders, personality and behavioral disorders, complex post-traumatic stress disorder, self-harm and suicidal behavior, eating disorders, psychosis, schizophrenia, addiction, and offense-specific needs.
In addition to the above presentations, the service works with individuals presenting with developmental disorders, intellectual difficulties, cognitive decline, traumatic brain injuries, limited literacy, and diverse cultural backgrounds.
Interventions
Prison-based psychologists have regular contact with community agencies involved in support and resettlement of individuals leaving custody. They also work with families and carers of those in custody. Where clinically appropriate, IPS psychologists provide time-limited community interventions to support a client's transition from custody to community.
The service plays a critical role in supporting the broader IPS organization through consultation, training, and education.
Essential Qualifications and Competencies
* Eligibility for graduate membership of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) or the British Psychological Society (BPS).
* A postgraduate professional qualification in Clinical Psychology recognized by PSI or Counselling Psychology recognized by PSI.
* A minimum of 2 years post-graduate experience as a Psychologist.
