Job Title: Graduate Metrology Calibration Engineer
Location: Tuam, Ireland
Contract: Permanent/Full Time
Your role:
This role has the accountability for the support to management and execution of calibration activities onsite across departments. You will support the laboratory systems qualification programs and new equipment introduction when required. The role must ensure that all key equipment is maintained in its calibrated state.
Main responsibilities:
1. Support the establishment of an internal calibration system, including the development of new SOPs, supporting schedules for instrumentation calibration, maintenance, and reporting templates.
2. Work with cross-functional departments on the migration from old to new calibration systems.
3. Support identification and harmonisation practices in relation to metrology.
4. Perform scheduled calibration and routine maintenance on equipment.
5. Support equipment installation and qualification along with associated documentation generation and review in accordance with all quality and regulatory expectations.
6. Risk assess and review legacy equipment to ensure it meets current standards.
7. Serve as a subject matter expert and point of contact for site instrumentation metrology.
8. Work with Engineering and R&D teams to support calibration standards and maintenance schedules for bespoke in-house developed equipment.
9. Liaise with external calibration and equipment maintenance providers to ensure adherence to internal processes and schedules.
10. Compile reports on metrics internally and present to relevant stakeholders.
11. Stay current with international standards and regulations to ensure company compliance.
Main requirements:
1. Third-level qualification (Min L8) in science or engineering, with specific metrology qualification as an advantage.
2. Develop and maintain an internal calibration system, including the development of new SOPs, determining schedules for instrumentation calibration and maintenance, and reporting templates.
3. Risk assess and review legacy equipment to ensure it meets current standards.
4. Troubleshooting/root cause analysis skills/attention to detail.
5. Desire to work in a collaborative, team-based structure.
6. Understanding of instrumental analysis in a laboratory setting.
7. Ability to analyse data and make informed decisions to improve the system based on this analysis.
8. Good understanding of measurement system evaluation principles and approaches.
9. Advanced computer skills (Excel, Outlook, JMP or Minitab expertise).
10. Ability to collaborate across multifunctional groups.
11. Good communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
12. Previous experience in metrology calibration within a laboratory environment.
13. Knowledge of QMS (e.g., ISO13485).
14. Knowledge of physics and optical instrumentation.
15. Prior experience in ophthalmic instrumentation.
16. Engineering mindset with a hands-on approach.
17. Experience in maintenance of high-end/complex systems for calibration.
