Job Description:
The Environmental & Sustainability Specialist will be part of the specialist QESH team in the region who will also be connected to the DP World Environmental team. In this role, you will be responsible for the development and administration of environmental management programs to reduce environmental impact; coordinating activities to improve environmental performance in the areas of design and construction practices and environmental activities. You will recommend and assist in the facilitation and implementation of changes and improvements. You are the Specialist who will ensure environmental requirements, climate data, governance, and reporting is completed to satisfy government, customer, and DP World requirements, providing the foundation for key decision-making in the region. This role includes international travel (50%) and requires flexibility to be away from home for a period of time.
Key Accountabilities:
* Development and maintenance of the environmental management systems and procedures, ensuring that legal, customer, standard, and company requirements are encompassed in the design.
* Supporting the data collection, calculation, analysis, and presentation of our Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory (Scope 1, 2, and 3) in cooperation with Group HSE.
* Work with the region to secure higher data quality, particularly for Scope 3 data.
* Support digitalization of our carbon footprint, securing customer requirements for annual reporting of qualitative and quantitative environmental data to a high standard – eg: CDP, NQC.
* Liase with procurement on annual renewable electricity requirements for customers.
* Contribute carbon expertise to ongoing projects, such as tracking progress towards DP World carbon neutrality goals.
* Empower the QEHS regional teams by creating an environment that promotes positive communication, encourages collaboration, and demonstrates flexibility.
* Participate in and administer Integrated Management Systems audits for ISO 14001 and ISO 50001.
* Design and develop best practice environmental procedures, ensuring these procedures are understood and implemented regionally.
* Develop and maintain environmental emergency preparedness and response processes.
* Provide specialist guidance for Environmental induction for all employees.
* Work with operational teams to improve environmental performance, reducing impacts to the environment from operational activities.
* Conduct internal environmental audits, workplace inspections, and environmental tours to the prescribed frequency.
* Responsible for environmental legal compliance audits, including record keeping and follow-up.
* Maintain a corporate register for environmental legal compliance in the region and communicate changes to environmental laws across the region.
* Coordinate environmental incident/accident investigations, including record keeping of conclusions, actions, and follow-up.
* Chair environmental meetings, present data, record actions, and maintain progress on actions.
* Monitor and report country and site environmental performance to local and country management and external interested parties, e.g., CDP.
And also:
* Be responsible for the carbon collection processes and carbon neutrality programs in the region.
* Oversee the regional ISO 14001 and 50001 processes and ensure timely completion of both customer and DP World environmental reporting – eg: CDP, NQC, Customer specific GHG emissions reports.
Key Requirements:
* University degree in environmental or engineering field or similar.
* Validated experience in data and reporting within sustainability, preferably in a corporate environment.
* Fluent in English, additional languages are a bonus, particularly German.
* Minimum of 3 years' experience in Environmental Management or specialist roles.
* Strong carbon accounting competencies, particularly in Scope 3 accounting.
* Demonstrable skills in data handling in Excel.
* Ability to understand data granularity while also understanding the high-level perspective.
