Finance Manager - Contract
Our client, a global leader in the life science sector, is seeking to hire a Finance Manager on a contract basis. Reporting to the Finance Director, you will be responsible for coordinating and controlling complex accounting functions across various regions. You will oversee general accounting duties, including team management within the General Ledger (GL) function for that region.
Responsibilities:
* Assist in preparing monthly financial reports, annual financial statements, and other internal or external reports, ensuring timely, accurate, and efficient completion.
* Manage the performance of the team, maintaining the 'Can do' process, setting SMART goals, and providing relevant feedback.
* Organize workload for the team and ensure the right resources are available and trained to the highest standard.
* Induct and train new team members, delivering high levels of training and measurement.
* Drive continuous improvement to streamline processes.
* Coordinate daily workflow of the accounting team, completing detailed account analysis and reconciling all general ledger accounts.
* Assist in transitioning GL functions into and out of the Shared Business Services (SBS).
* Manage both local and Philippines-based GL Accounting teams.
* Develop new and streamline existing processes and systems to deliver value-added information to internal and external stakeholders.
* Analyse cost information for presentation to divisional managers.
* Be an effective team player, driving efficiency and continuous improvement throughout the department.
* Provide day-to-day cover for the team when members are absent, ensuring critical deadlines are met.
* Manage the preparation of monthly financial reports for defined entities/regions, ensuring timely, accurate, and efficient completion.
* Review entity balance sheet reconciliations at month-end.
* Review entity monthly accruals and prepayments to ensure accurate capture.
* Review entity income statement variance analysis on a monthly and quarterly basis.
* Review entity compliance with US GAAP revenue recognition criteria.
* Review significant revenue contracts for in-scope entities to ensure compliance with corporate revenue recognition guidelines.
* Support the transition of functions (Record to Report in particular) to other locations.
* Deliver ad-hoc reporting requirements as they arise and manage and review reports for accuracy prior to publication.
* Interface with corporate tax and treasury on matters impacting the business unit, including tax strategies.
* Collaborate with external audit staff for periodic year-end review procedures and local statutory audits as required.
* Contribute to policy and control environment development to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
* Enhance existing processes and develop new ones to ensure efficient completion of duties.
* Provide technical expertise, support, and guidance to the accounting group.
* Promote teamwork within the group.
* Develop relationships with internal and external customers.
* Liaise efficiently with corporate and other IT business subsidiaries worldwide.
* Provide training and support to the Finance teams in Galway and the Philippines.
* Evaluate the internal control environment and implement improvements in a timely fashion.
* Provide assistance to the worldwide finance organization as needed.
* Perform other duties and projects assigned by the Finance Manager.
Requirements:
* Accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
* Third-level degree or equivalent
* 5+ years of experience, preferably with a Shared Service Centre/Multinational
* SAP/Oracle or other major ERP Systems experience desirable
* Strong written and verbal communication skills essential
* Able to work independently to understand and summarise financial data into high-quality summaries
* Strong computer skills, especially MS Office and Qlikview
