Position Summary: The Psychologist will be a member of the Department of Psychology, and will provide a Clinical Psychology and Neuropsychology service to patients attending Beaumont Hospital and St Joseph’s Hospital, Raheny. The post-holder will be expected to assist the Principal Clinical Psychologist/Head of Department to develop and manage the clinical psychology services within the hospital and to provide supervision and development opportunities for all staff and students within the service. The clinical duties will include providing clinical psychology service to the Psychology Department and to patients referred to the Neurology, Neurosurgery and Care of the Elderly Teams. It is an exciting opportunity to develop specialist areas within psychology and to develop services for this vulnerable client group in the context of a developing multi-disciplinary team. The post may be split between Beaumont Hospital and St Joseph’s Hospital, Raheny.
Responsibilities
Reporting Relationship The Psychologist will report to the Head of Department of Psychology and will operate within a Psychology Department structure as a professional team member. The Post-Holder will also be responsible to the relevant medical/surgical consultants for their clinical activity. Duties and Responsibilities are: 1. To ensure the provision of the highest standard of practice and care in the clinical psychology of adults and older adults in Beaumont Hospital, and to work with the Principal Clinical/Neuropsychologist to ensure that clinical risk management practices and clinical audit form the basis of the standards of practice. 2. To provide clinical psychology services to patients of Beaumont Hospital with a special interest in the Neuroscience and Care of the Elderly. 3. To provide ongoing supervision for the basic and trainee grades of staff, in accordance with guidelines as defined by the Psychology Society of Ireland. S/he may be responsible for the management of other staff as assigned by the Head of Department; 4. To undertake specialist assessment, appropriate therapy interventions and preventative programmes and to liaise and co-ordinate with relevant professional staff in determining treatment options for clients. 5. To provide professional reports and information to other professional staff and such other reports as appropriate. 6. To participate actively in the ongoing training, lecturing, development and continuing education of staff and to establish links with the educational institutions with regard to under and post graduate training as appropriate. 7. To undertake research in clinical psychology and to participate in the specialised research interests of the staff in the department and clinical service and to link with the ongoing research in Beaumont Hospital/St Joseph’s Hospital as relevant. 8. To provide a clinical psychology service in line with Psychology Department service plans and objectives and within established guidelines and policy. 9. To contribute to the Annual service plan and review, to include work activities, with evidence of qualitative and quantitative outputs. To work on service development, general administration, budget management and general staff supervision and management for their service in conjunction with the Head of Department. 10. The Clinical Psychologist will maintain collaborative working relationships with psychology colleagues, members of multidisciplinary team and as required, with outside agencies. 11. To manage continuing professional development, including availing of mandatory supervision in clinical psychology at an appropriate level as agreed with the Head of Department. 12. To carry out such other duties as may be assigned to him/her by the Head of Department of Psychology, Chief Executive or designated officer.
Qualifications
Mandatory: Each candidate must, on the latest date for receiving completed application forms for the office: (a) Hold a recognised University degree or diploma obtained with first or second class honours in which psychology was taken as a major subject and honours obtained in the subject AND Hold a recognised postgraduate qualification in Clinical Psychology ANDHave at least five years satisfactory postgraduate experience in Clinical Psychology, inclusive of any time spent in pursuing a course leading to the postgraduate qualification. Qualifications obtained outside the Republic of Ireland must be validated by the Department of Health and Children. Each candidate must possess the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office. Desirable: It is desirable to have the following experience:(a) Experience and extensive knowledge in clinical psychological assessments and a broad range of treatment procedures;(b) Have experience in supervision of trainee grade;(c) Have a proven track record in Clinical Psychology research as the appointee will have the opportunity to develop specific research interests;(d) Have a proven record of involvement with the management of a psychology service, experience in assisting service development, general and budget management and general staff supervision;(e) It is desirable to have an interest and preferably experience in the treatment of neurological, neurosurgical and older adult populations;Have the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Thus, the appointee will possess excellent written and oral communication skills and will participate in case conferences and ward rounds.
