Maynooth Community Employment Project (MCEP) has been providing a community hub office in Maynooth since 1984. It has registered as a company limited by guarantee without shares since 2001. MCEP has three sites in Maynooth and, in addition to a public office based in Tesco, Carton Park, the project maintains the environs of the Royal Canal with a base at Duke's Harbour in Maynooth. The project also maintains the club grounds of Maynooth Town Football Club. MCEP operates a Community Employment Project, funded by the Department of Social Protection. MCEP is a registered Charity in Ireland and is fully compliant with the requirements of the Charities Regulator and the Companies Registration requirements.
As well as providing a community hub, MCEP publishes the monthly 32-page Maynooth Newsletter, which has been in existence since the mid-1970s. We support a range of local community groups in their work, such as the Maynooth St. Patrick's Day Parade. The main activity of MCEP is to provide an opportunity for long-term unemployed people to upgrade their skills and be job-ready to re-enter the workforce. Over the lifetime of the project, hundreds of participants have benefitted from the presence of the project in Maynooth as well as the wider community.
