Position Overview
We are seeking a Head of IT & Systems to drive the evolution of our IT infrastructure, security protocols and systems innovation. This role demands an experienced leader with a robust technical foundation and the ability to align IT strategies with our business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic IT Leadership
1. Develop & Execute Strategy: Formulate and implement IT and systems strategies aligned with company goals
2. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with various departments to optimise IT resources and ensure scalable infrastructure
3. Industry Alignment: Provide technical leadership to maintain adherence to industry standards and best practices
1. Systems and Infrastructure Oversight
1. System Management: Oversee deployment, configuration and maintenance of IT systems across Linux (Debian preferred) and Windows environments, including Kubernetes (K8s) clusters
2. Cloud Infrastructure: Ensure optimal performance and security of our cloud services, primarily AWS, with beneficial knowledge in Azure and Google Cloud
3. Database Strategy: Scale the architecture and strategy for SQL (MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) databases
1. Security and Compliance
1. Security: Establish and enforce robust cybersecurity measures, including disaster recovery and incident response plans
2. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with standards such as ISO-27001 and SOC-2, maintaining audit readiness at all times
1. Automation and Process Optimisation
1. Automation Tools: Drive the adoption and development of automation using Terraform and Ansible
2. DevOps Culture: Oversee CI/CD pipelines and promote a DevOps mindset using tools like Jenkins and GitHub Actions
1. Leadership and Team Development
1. Team Management: Lead, mentor and develop the IT and systems team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high performance
2. Stakeholder Partnership: Collaborate with product, engineering and other key stakeholders to deliver innovative and effective solutions
3. Representation: Act as the IT representative in leadership meetings and company-wide initiatives
1. Monitoring and Analytics
1. Monitoring Frameworks: Implement comprehensive monitoring systems using tools like the ELK and TIGK stacks
2. Data-Driven Decisions: Utilise analytics to drive continuous improvement and support strategic decision-making
Required Skills & Experience
1. Experience: 10+ years in IT, including at least 3 years in a leadership role overseeing system administration and IT operations
2. Technical Expertise:
1. Proficient in Linux systems (Debian preferred) and AWS cloud services
2. Advanced knowledge of SQL and NoSQL database management
3. Strong automation skills with Terraform, Ansible and scripting (Bash, Python or PowerShell)
4. Proven experience in implementing and managing CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
1. Soft Skills:
1. Strategic thinker with excellent communication and collaboration abilities
2. Strong leadership and team development skills
Desirable Skills
1. Experience with Kubernetes and Windows environments
2. Familiarity with ELK and TIGK stacks
3. Knowledge of Agile methodologies and programming languages such as PHP, Go and Python
Education & Qualifications
1. Degree: BSc/MSc in Computer Science, IT Management OR equivalent experience
