The Department of Construction is a constituent Department of the School of Building & Civil Engineering (in addition to the Departments of Civil, Structural & Environmental Engineering and the Department of Construction). The School is a constituent School of the Faculty of Engineering. The School of Building & Civil Engineering delivers programmes across a wide range of Construction and Built Environment-related disciplines from Level 7 Ordinary Degree to Research Masters and PhD. A wide ranging provision of part-time programmes with an industry-focus are also delivered. Professional accreditation of programmes is a key feature of School provision. The School through its Sustainable Infrastructure Research & Innovation Group (SIRIG) is actively involved in National and International Research & Innovation Projects with a focus on Sustainable Infrastructural Development. The Head of Department of Construction is a Senior Lecturer Grade II post within the University. The Head of Department of Construction will be responsible for all aspects of the Department, its programmes and its development. Duties of the Post Include but are not limited to: Preparing a rolling strategic and operational plan for the Department which is consistent with School, Faculty and University objectives; Providing academic leadership and scholarship, and ensuring that the range of taught programmes and research & innovation activities provided by the Department meet student, University, regional and national needs; Playing a leading role in development, implementation and maintenance of quality assurance procedures at Departmental, School, Faculty and University levels; Assisting with institutional reviews; Teaching classes for up to 105 hours per annum and carrying out assessment, monitoring and evaluation of examination work; Providing an academic and consultative support to students in their learning activities; Directing and supervising the work of Tutor/Demonstrators and taking academic responsibility for the academic standards of this work; Participating in committees and meetings as required; Qualification Requirements and Selection Criteria for role: Essential: A relevant Level 8 Honours Primary Degree (second class or higher) from a recognised degree awarding authority OR An equivalent relevant professional qualification obtained through examination. AND Not less than five years of appropriate post qualification experience A successful candidate will be required to submit a passport, documentary evidence confirming academic qualifications, and to undergo a medical examination.
