Our Senior Automation Engineers manage, execute, and provide technical support for automation of new and existing industrial systems in a regulated environment. They provide site expertise and act as a key technical resource on process and machine control systems for their use in manufacturing. This role supports the site’s strategy (Dungarvan, Waterford) by ensuring automated production equipment is available to produce when needed. The role manages small project teams comprised of internal and external stakeholders to deliver complex automation control projects on time and within budget.
Job Responsibilities
1. Specify, design, and deliver automation control systems for production process measurement and control of Quality Critical Attributes (QCA) and associated Critical Process Parameters (CPP) to ensure predictable and stable process operations.
2. Responsible for routinely designing, managing, and executing multiple high-value complex automation projects from concept to completion in support of site operations, ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, company standards, operational requirements, budget, time, and business needs.
3. Ensure all equipment is correct for the intended purpose and that vendor contracts contain appropriate technical specifications for Automation control systems to be delivered as intended.
4. Maintain a detailed and expert knowledge of current and future automation technologies and be the site expert in a minimum of 3 of the following disciplines: Field Instrumentation, PLC, SCADA, Historians, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Building Management Systems (BMS), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Computerised System Validation (CSV), Visualization Systems, Virtualization, and Integration Technologies – middleware, OPC, XML.
5. Provide training and support for onsite users/engineers in automation technologies and applications.
6. Provide subject matter expertise to regulatory inspections and interact with auditors as necessary.
7. Assist in the preparation of large-scale project estimates in alignment with department objectives.
8. In coordination with the Quality Engineers, develop validation documentation, manage the change control process for Automation, and manage the design development of project documents.
9. Responsible for on-time compliance records of the Automation Engineering Department.
Skills and Experience Requirements
1. Min of BSc. in Engineering; Control Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, or Chemical Engineering preferred in Control Systems, Computerised Systems, Networking, or Mechatronics.
2. Multiple years of experience in automation in an enterprise-level, highly regulated manufacturing environment.
3. Must have hands-on programming and troubleshooting skills for Automation, Instrumentation, and IT systems.
4. A proven ability to interface with operational and senior management within the organization.
