POSITION: DOMESTIC LINGUISTIC INTERPRETER (student)
HOURS OF WORK: variable to a maximum of 36.25 hours per week (must be able to work weekends, holidays and evenings as required)

SALARY: $18.05 per hour
PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT: May 5 to August 31, 2025
WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO DO IN THIS ROLE?
You Will:
1. Be a representative of one of Kingston’s premium and internationally recognized tourism sites.
2. Interpret the role of a garrison domestic member of 1867-era British North America.

3. An Officer’s Wife
4. Garrison Schoolmaster
5. Barrack Room Orderly
6. Garrison Pioneer
* In period costume, interpret the history of Fort Henry National Historic Site of Canada – part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site – in English and French by taking visitors on guided tours, participating in historical dramatizations, events, parades and performances, and giving spoken commentary to performances.
* Have the opportunity to provide interpretation in any other languages in which you are fluent such as Mandarin, German, Punjabi, etc.
* Perform before Fort Henry visitors and attend internal and external special events.
* Make each guest’s experience at Fort Henry National Historic Site of Canada interesting and enjoyable by providing excellent customer service.
* Work safely at all times and report unsafe activities immediately to your supervisor.
* Embody the SLPC’s equity, diversity and inclusion principles while interacting with staff and guests.
HOW DO I QUALIFY?
You Have The Following Skills:
ACTING & PERFORMANCE SKILLS:
* The ability to work in a fast-paced and high stress work environment and can meet high performance expectations.
* The ability to learn historical information, particularly Canadian and/or British military and social history c. 1867, within a limited timeframe and interpret it to the public (in both individual and group settings).
* The ability to portray an historical character and perform the role in public.
* Communication and interpersonal skills to provide excellent program delivery, customer service and effective information service to both the public and staff.
Language Skills:
* Linguistic abilities (fluent) in English and French.
Physical Skills:
* A high degree of physical fitness to meet the physical demands of the position.
Safety Skills:
* The ability to learn all safety protocols and procedures to ensure personal, guest and fellow staff safety is always maintained.
