Technical Manager
Lakeland Dairies Co-operative Society Limited (The Group) is the second largest dairy processor on the island of Ireland. The business is complex and ambitious with a milk supply pool of 2 billion litres of milk, drawn from over 3,200 family farms across 16 counties.
With the most modern dairy manufacturing facilities in 6 locations on a cross-border basis, the Group supplies to a broad customer base including some of the world’s foremost ‘blue chip’ companies across the dairy food ingredients, foodservice and consumer food channels on a domestic Ireland, UK, European and global basis. Internationally we export some 240 different products to over 100 countries worldwide.
The Group’s Agribusiness Division (Lakeland Agri) operates a state-of-the-art Animal Feed Manufacturing Facility and is a leading and innovative provider of the highest quality feeds and agricultural inputs to dairy, beef and sheep farmers across the north and south of Ireland.
We are now seeking applications for the position of Technical Manager for the Killeshandra Site. Reporting to the Site Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for directing and leading the quality, environmental and sustainability functions at the Site.
They will work with the site management team and external stakeholders, customers and agencies in a professional, communicative manner ensuring continuous improvement. Developing, implementing and monitoring integrated quality, environmental and sustainability strategies across the site will be a key part of this role.
Key responsibilities will include:
1. Lead the ongoing evolution of progressive, fit for purpose Quality Management Systems (QMS) and Environmental Management Systems (EMS) aligned with present and future business needs supporting the ongoing development of the business and a culture of continuous improvement and a focus on customer service.
2. Provide senior leadership and management to functions of Quality Assurance, Environment and Sustainability ensuring the company meets legislative, customer and company requirements.
3. Manage direct and indirect departmental costs and resources to ensure the overall effectiveness of the operation.
4. Proactively co-ordinate and lead ongoing improvement processes & projects both internally and with external customers and suppliers.
5. Liaise with external agencies, customers and suppliers as required.
Individual: The successful candidate will have strong people leadership capability with the ability to develop and motivate others in a changing environment promoting a culture of continuous improvement. The person will need to be able to promote conformity with rules, systems and protocols.
Working at a high level of expertise in a technical specialist area, the person must have strong communication skills to educate, lead and support others in meeting objectives. The person will be analytical with a questioning approach and excellent attention to detail.
As standards, systems and procedures are important aspects of this role, it requires an individual who is precise, structured and self-motivating. The person must have the ability to work in a thorough and organised manner and have the persistence to see a job through to conclusion. The person appointed also requires high learning agility.
Experience: The position requires an individual with a number of years’ experience in the food industry within a quality or technical function.
Educational: Candidates will possess a third level qualification in Food Sciences or equivalent.
